Benjamin Jones Obituary

North Granville, N.Y. Benjamin H. Jones, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at home after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Ben was born on May 27, 1923, in South Poultney, Vt., the son of Benjamin H. Jones Sr. and Sarah (Hughes) Jones. Ben married Jeane Stone (who predeceased him in May 2001) on March 27, 1943, in Poultney, Vt. Ben was a loving and devoted husband for 58 years. His memories about their courtship, the care he provided to Jeane during her long illness and his sense of loss after her death were remarkable. Ben retired from the Granville Central School system in 1988 as the transportation manager after 30 years of service. Ben and Jeane moved to North Granville in 1968 from his parents' dairy farm in Hampton. Ben loved his family and his home. He enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper, refinishing furniture and sharing his stories with almost total recall and a twinkle in his eye. He had a gentle sense of humor, a strong will and an independent spirit. Survivors include his three daughters, Sandra D. Fagan of Blairsville, Ga., Barbara J. Henderson of Alabama and Andrea J. Morris of Westford, Mass.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Mountainview Cemetery in West Pawlet, Vt., on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at 1 p.m. There will be a graveside service for anyone wishing to attend. For those who wish to do so, the family suggests making donations in Ben's memory to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494 Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY 12832.
