Joseph Devine Obituary

Indian Lake Joseph J. Devine, 83, of Adirondack Lake Road, died Friday morning, Nov. 9, 2007, at Throgs Neck Extended Care Center, Bronx. He was born on July 10, 1924, in the Bronx. Joe served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he married Ruth M. Hall on June 3, 1950, in the Bronx. Mrs. Devine died on April 29, 2000, following 50 years of marriage. He was employed as a brakeman by Conrail for many years in the Bronx. Joe and Ruth honeymooned in Indian Lake and had vacationed there every year until their retirement in 1984, when they moved there permanently. They enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He enjoyed carpentry and ice skating. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Indian Lake. Survivors include his son, Dennis Devine and his wife, Lynn, of the Bronx. Friends may call Monday, Nov. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, 35 West Main St., Indian Lake. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Sony Pulickal, pastor, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Indian Lake. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be directed to the Indian Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Indian Lake, NY 12842.
