Kenneth Petteys Obituary

WILTON Kenneth G. Petteys, beloved father and grandfather, 102, of Wilton, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Wesley Health Care Center, following a brief illness. Ken was born on July 1, 1905, in Wilton, the son of the late Frank and Hazel Mae (Varney) Petteys. Ken married Caroline Elizabeth Loveland on April 20, 1929. They celebrated 70 years of marriage together. Ken was a lifelong resident of Wilton and was loved by many. After retiring from Saratoga County, Ken was generous with his time, helping neighbors with their home maintenance projects. Ken was a kind and compassionate gentleman, teaching his family by example, the importance of being a caring individual. Ken seldom passed up a chance to share a meal, an experience or join in the celebration of a birthday or anniversary with his extended family and friends. Ken joined the Wilton Grange at the age of 15, the Methodist Church of Wilton at the age of 16. He was a Charter Member of the Wilton Methodist Men, a lifetime member of the Wilton Fire Department, a member of the Wilton Heritage Society and Wilton Seniors. Ken served as a Wilton town councilman from 1945 to 1958 and as a supervisor for the town of Wilton from 1958 to 1959. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Caroline (Carrie); his brothers, Dallas, Curtis, Clifton and Lawrence Petteys; his sisters, Dolores Timko and Virginia Mahay; and his son-in-law, Edward Ball. Survivors include his three daughters: Audrey Ball of Wilton, Barbara and her husband, Raymond Cook, of Fort Myers, Carolyn and her husband, Joseph Cook, of Schuylerville; two sisters, Ruth Loveland of Schenectady and Elsie (Marcy) Arnold of Saratoga Springs; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and longtime friend, J. Charles VanRensselaer. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 155 Ballard Road, Wilton with the Rev. Patti Girard officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Gurn Springs Cemetery, Ballard Road. Memorials may be made in Ken's honor to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 155 Ballard Road, Wilton, NY 12831.
