Carl Moore Obituary

Salem, N.Y. Carl "Jupe" A. Moore, 84, of Salem, passed peacefully, Thursday evening, Nov. 22, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt., after a long illness. Born, March 19, 1923, in Salem, N.Y., he was the son of T. Carl Moore and Elsa Alexander. Jupe enlisted in the Army in January of 1943, he went on to serve in different parts of the country, as well as in India. He received several medals, including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged as a sergeant. He was awarded his honorary diploma from Washington Academy in 2006. He operated TC Moore and Son Service Station and went on to cook for the Washington County Jail, where he was well liked and respected by all his co-workers. Jupe had a heart of gold, took great care of his family and friends and would be the first to offer to drive a sick friend to the doctor. Jupe married Joyce West on March 26, 1947. Jupe was predeceased by his father, T. Carl, his mother, Elsa, his infant brother and his sister, Adele. Jupe is survived by his loving family and close friends, including his wife of 60 years, Joyce West Moore, his three children: Carol MacNeil and her husband, Michael, Linda Goddard and her husband, Arthur, and Thomas Moore; grandchildren: Mindy Goddard, Paige Saddlemire and her husband, Andy, Megan Goddard and her companion, Ian Sheldon, A.J. Goddard, Brian MacNeil, T.J. Goddard and companion, Ashley Betit, and his great-grandson, Michael Formwalt, all of Salem, N.Y. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Stanley Ziminski, Massapequa, N.Y. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, N.Y., with the Rev. Sandra Spaulding, pastor, officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday, prior to the service. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Salem, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jupe's name to the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, Salem, NY 12865 or the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY 12865.
