Shirley Evans Obituary

SARANAC Shirley M. Evans, 76, of Gokey Road, Saranac, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Fort Edward, N.Y. on Aug. 25, 1931, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Jordon) Wood. Shirley worked as a paper finisher at the James River Paper Company in South Glens Falls for many years until her retirement. She married Donald Evans on Sept. 26, 1980, in Northumberland, N.Y. She loved to go camping with her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a collector of porcelain dolls and had a great love for animals. Shirley was a member of the VFW Post 1653 Ladies Auxiliary in Granville, N.Y., and also the American Legion Post 1618 Ladies Auxiliary in Saranac, N.Y. Survivors include her husband, Donald Evans of Saranac; three daughters: Linda and Edward Champagne Jr., of Plattsburgh, Nancy Young and her husband, Donald, of Massena and Tina Joiner and her companion, Kevin Bower Sr., of Plattsburgh; one son, Raymond Carter and his wife, Sharon, of Saranac; one stepdaughter, Kathy Ennis of Midloathain, Va.; three sisters: Doris Hoag of Gansevoort, N.Y., Donna Sherrange of Corinth, N.Y. and Wanda Joiner and her husband, Bruce, of Gansevoort, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon Wood and George Wood; and one sister, Joan White. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, from noon to 3 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Donations in her memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society or the St. John Feral Cat Fund. We would like to extend a special thank you to Wayne and Nancy Wood for being with our mother in her hour of passing.
