Hilda Webb Obituary

GLENS FALLS The family of Hilda Leona Jones Webb, daughter of Austin Pomeroy and Clara (Bennett) Jones, are saddened to announce her passing on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2007. Born at 59 Sanford St. (now 77 Sanford St.), Glens Falls, N.Y., on Oct. 25, 1919, Hilda returned to her Heavenly Father from the same room she had arrived in 88 years earlier. Hilda graduated from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1937. She was employed by the Queensbury Hotel in the position of private secretary to Robert F. Collamer, the hotel manager. She married Rockwell O. Webb Sr. on March 12, 1938, at the home of Earl and Ruth Fratus of 14 Horicon Ave., Glens Falls and for the next 40 years they celebrated Christmas together with their families. Hilda worked alongside her husband Rock in his many different businesses, starting with Apex Industrial Construction Corp. in 1955, and ending with the Adirondack Armored Car Service in 1979. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist of Glens Falls. In addition to her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, John Cameron and Sarah (Hayes) Bennett of 59 Sanford St., her husband, Rockwell, who died in October 1978, two brothers, Ralph and Walter Jones and her two sisters, Ruth (Jones) Charge and Sarah (Jones) Novotney. Survivors include her beloved son, Rockwell O. Webb Jr. and daughter-in-law, Donna (Ingraham) Webb; their three children, Cinthia (Webb) Altman, her husband, Steve, and daughter, Elizabeth of Fort Mill, S. C., Matthew J. Webb and his wife, Kylie (Davis) Webb; their three daughters, Kasandra, Alyson and Lianna Webb of Queensbury; Sherry (Webb) Carpenter and her husband, Marc Carpenter, of South Glens Falls; her daughter and caregiver, Karen S. Webb of 77 Sanford St., Glens Falls; her Grandpup, Bizzie Boy; and very dear friends, Keena Morris, Bill and Faith Best and Ruth George and cousin, Dorothy Alden and several nieces, nephews cousins and friends. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. John Sawyer, Lisa Greenwald and Cairenn Young of Hudson Headwaters Health Network and the Homeward Bound Program for their many house calls that enabled Hilda to remain in her home. To Katherine Voronovich from Greater Adirondack Home Aides, our sincerest thank you for your tender care and compassion. Also thanks to the staff of High Peaks Hospice for their services. Hilda has donated her body to Albany Medical College so that others may gain greater knowledge of the workings of the human body. There will be no calling hours. On Thursday, Nov. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., friends and relatives will have the opportunity to gather together at the home of Rocky and Donna Webb, 123 Broad St., Hudson Falls to honor her memory. The family requests that donations be made to the local Salvation Army building fund, 13 Chester St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Though we hadn't seen Hilda for many years, we remember her living across the street so many years ago. Her quick wit was always entertaining, and a little bird told us she was quick witted 'til the end.
