Bernadette Freebern Obituary

KINGSBURY Bernadette C. "Babe" Freebern, 89, of Rock City Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, surrounded by her family, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born Dec. 13, 1917, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Nora (Holland) Corbett. Bernadette was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1936. She married H. Hartsle Freebern on March 25, 1944. After Mr. Freebern returned from the war, they moved to North Creek. She quickly became well known and liked in the community, becoming active in the PTA and at St. James Church, where she taught religious education and served on the Rosary Altar Society. In 1977, Bernadette and Hartsle moved to her family homestead in Glens Falls. Once again, she became an active lady in the church, St. Mary's of Glens Falls. Bernadette also took care of her brothers and sisters as well as her beloved grandchildren. In 1990, they moved to Rock City Road in Kingsbury. Her loving husband died on Oct. 31, 2004. Babe spent her life loving and caring for her family. She enjoyed writing poetry, sports, playing the piano and she made the world's best apple pie. She was an optimistic, cheerful and happy person who was considered the center of her family. Her religion was very important to her and when her family was in need, they always referred to her with help in prayer. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Thomas Corbett and Dennis Corbett; her sisters, Mary Corbett Freebern and Ann Corbett Lourin; and her nephews, Thomas Corbett and Edward Corbett. Survivors include her children: Cynthia A. Freebern of Kingsbury, Glenda F. Guzouskas and her husband, Gary, of Henniker, N.H. and Henry C. Freebern and his wife, Deborah, of Kingsbury; her grandchildren: Lance C. Freebern and his wife, Megan, of Kingsbury, Tracey Bernadette Guzouskas of N.H. and Shane M. Freebern and his wife, Jill, of Fort Ann; her great-grandchildren, Carson J. Freebern, Mason H. Freebern, Cole T. Freebern and Madison A Freebern; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski, pastor, officiat- ing The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
