Christy L. "Chris" Discenza

QUEENSBURY Christy L. "Chris" Discenza passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Baranello, Italy, on Aug. 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Maria (Nero) Discenza. In 1928, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Hartford, Conn. An accomplished musician, Chris moved to the Lake George area to play with his band at the Antlers Hotel at the age of 19 where he met his wife, Dora Grace Armstrong. Chris and Dora were married in 1941, and had two sons, Samuel and David. Chris served in the Army tank battalion and was honorably discharged in January 1946. After his military service, he returned to work at Imperial Paper and Color, which later became Hercules, Inc., then Ciba-Geigy, Inc., from which he retired in 1982. From 1947 through 1977, his band "Chris Discenza" provided music for many school proms, weddings, and anniversary parties. He was also a communicant at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. The family settled in Queensbury in 1946, at the home where Chris lived his entire life. Chris loved music, golf, bowling, fishing, and horse racing, but his true passion was always his wife, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his source of pride and pure joy. In addition to his parents, Chris was predeceased by his wife, Dora, son, David, brother, Nelson Discenza, brothers-in-law, John Armstrong, Arthur Brayton, and John Izzo, and granddaughter, Mia Discenza. Survivors include his son, Samuel Discenza and his wife, Janet, of Shelton, Conn.; daughter-in-law, Rita Discenza, of Queensbury; his four grandchildren: Kendra Davis and her husband, Stephen, of Milford, Conn.; Dawn McKnight and her husband, Michael, of Tampa, Fla.; David P. Discenza and his wife, Michelle, of Queensbury; and Daniel Discenza and his wife, Colleen, of Seattle, Wash.; his eight great-grandchildren: Joshua and Megan Thornberg, both of Milford, Conn.; Jessica, Julia, and Jenna McKnight all of Tampa, Fla.; Emily and Evan Discenza, both of Queensbury; and Samuel D. Discenza of Seattle, Wash.; his three sisters: Mena Giacolone and her husband, Tony, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Lucy Mondazzi and her husband, Rocky, of Harrington, Del.; and Joanne DelGiudice and her husband, Richard, of Felton, Del.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. The Rite of Committal will follow at Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury.
