Geno Furforo Obituary

CAMBRIDGE Geno James Furforo, 76, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Albany Medical Center. Born Jan. 31, 1931, in Cambridge, he was the son of James and Theresa Liporace Furforo. The family lived in Hoosick Falls where Geno attended St. Mary's Academy. They later moved to Cambridge where he graduated from Cambridge Union School. Immediately following high school, Geno joined the U.S. Air Force. He served for over a year in Korea. After leaving the service, he settled with his wife in Colville, Wash. In 1963, the family returned to Cambridge. Loving children and sports, Geno and a group of friends purchased and developed the Little League Baseball Field on Division Street. Their generosity established Little League baseball in Cambridge for generations to come. Geno worked for New York State as a prison guard stationed at Mount McGregor Correction Facility in Wilton at the time of his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 10917 and of Captain Maxson Post No. 634 of the American Legion. The most important thing in Geno's life was his family. He loved being with them and doing things for them. There was always time for his grandchildren. Survivors include three sons: Marco S. and wife, Blanche, Nickolas Gino and wife, Denise and Michael J. and wife, Kristen, all of Cambridge; a daughter, Cherisse Brizendine and husband, Britt, of Spring Hill, Fla.; three sisters: Lydia Huard of California, Ida Hayes of Cambridge and Dolly Smith of Great Falls, Mont.; eight grandchildren: Michael, Maria, Marissa, Amy, Dory, Dalton, Annecia and Cloe; three great-grandchildren: Kiley, Nickolas and Paris; his former wife, Dolores Hanks Furforo and several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. There will be a Knights of Columbus service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy, to the Furforo Family. I work with his son Nick and know it has been tough for him, in this Holiday season. They say time will heal all wounds, but the loss of a parent is a wound that will not heal, but will make you stronger. I am so sorry and hope the love in your family will ease the pain.
