June Ellen Obituary

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. June Bassock Ellen, 84, of Van Antwerp Road, in Niskayuna, N.Y., died on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Mrs. Ellen was born in New York City and raised in Glens Falls. She resided in Gloversville as a newlywed where she worked as an executive secretary to the general manager of Decca Records. While in Gloversville, she and her husband, Coleman, started a Saturday night "Supper Club," that, at the time, had eight couples, and which is still going strong to this day. June served as "Miss Sunshine Chairman" and up until her illness she was still sending cards to all of her friends and family. Upon relocating in 1959, she and her husband operated Gould's Shoe Store on Albany Street in Schenectady, which closed in 1972. At that time, she also volunteered at Sunnyview. Later, June was employed by Cohoes Manufacturing for 20 years. When she retired, she devoted most of her free time at Sunnyview Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of the auxiliary at Sunnyview and also a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue and its sisterhood. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Coleman; and loving daughter, Joy; as well as her sister, Sandra Green; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Sharon Bassock and Michael and Ingunn Bassock. She was an aunt, a great-aunt and great-great-aunt. June was predeceased by her parents, Maxwell and Beatrice Bassock. She passed away with her loving family by her side. Services will be at the Beth Israel Cemetery Chapel Abbottsford Road Rotterdam, N.Y. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Pkwy., Schenectady, NY 12309, Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 or a charity of one's choice. The period of mourning will be observed at the Ellen residence, 1365 Van Antwerp Road Apt K 12, on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings from 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon.
