Doreen C. "Mimi" Dearstyne

CAMBRIDGE Doreen C. Dearstyne (known by her grandchildren as "Mimi"), 81, of Cambridge Woods, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She was the widow of Lester K. Dearstyne who died in 1970. Born May 11, 1926, in Greenock, Scotland, she was the daughter of Sean Duffy and Cathleen Parker. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 and moved to the United States after she and Lester married. The family moved to Cambridge in the early 1960s. Doreen worked in Eagle Bridge at the Owlkill Farm for many years. She was a wonderful baker. She enjoyed painting and took classes from Jane Nichols and she loved to go out to breakfast, especially with her dear friend, Bea Pierce. Survivors include seven children: Joseph (Jay) Dearstyne, Dale Dearstyne, Lori Vecchione, James Dearstyne, Margaret Danio, Trudy Nesbitt and Jeffery Dearstyne, all of Cambridge; a stepson, Frank Dearstyne of Sharon, Conn.; 17 grand- children and eight great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by a stepson, Worthington Dearstyne. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A memorial celebration of Doreen's life will take place at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Jane Baker of the Embury United Methodist Church. Her ashes will be buried at the family's convenience at Blooming Grove Cemetery, Defreestville, next to her husband. The family suggest memorial donation be made to the Washington County Office of the Aging Meals on Wheels, 383 Broadway, Washington County Municipal Building, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
