Linwood "Marty" Martin West Jr., 62, of Stafford, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Mary Washington Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Davis West; children, Erin, Rebecca and Robert West of the home, Ann Marie Scroggin and son-in-law Todd Scroggin; two grandchildren, Ashley and Nicholas Scroggin, all of Stafford; his mother, May Lee West Seeber of Alexandria; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Charles Barnes of Alexandria; brother, Daniel West of Boulder, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Linwood M. West Sr. Mr. West was born and raised in Alexandria where he graduated from George Washington High School. He also received an associate degree from American University. Mr. West retired as a sergeant in the Alexandria Police Department after 31 years of service, and most recently was driving a Head Start bus for Stafford County Schools. He volunteered with North Stafford High School softball team and was a huge sports fan, especially baseball and the Atlanta Braves. Mullins and Thompson, Stafford is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, May 18 at Mullins & Thompson, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, and 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, May 19. Funeral services will be conducted at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Stafford at noon Friday, May 19 with the Rev. Jay Burress and the Rev. Juan Rivera officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be a reception in the church following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 65 Toluca Road, Stafford, VA 22556 or Midway Baptist Church (Missions), 791 Telegraph Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
