Leonard Kennedy Obituary

KENNEDY, LEONARD WILCOX JR., 60 - went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 18, 2008. He is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 35 years Bette (Brown) Kennedy, four daughters Brook Schwenger (Fred) of Weekstown, Shelly Spier (Al) of Port Republic, Dawn Burton (Matt) of Galloway Twp, Holly Kennedy of California and two granddaughters Julia and Lacey. He is the son of Fern Kennedy and the late Len Kennedy Sr. of Estell Manor, predeceased by sister Lorraine Wagner, and nephew Daniel Brown. Survived by sisters; Darlene McIntyre (Jim) of, Missouri, Donna Smith of Florida, Sharon Tommi (Dean) of Egg Harbor Twp., Lynn Brown (Donald) of Richland, and Fern Brown (Stephen) of Estell Manor. Also he will be missed by many nieces, nephews, loving in-laws and many close friends. Lenny was born and raised in Pomona on the family farm where he acquired his love of growing and selling flowers and vegetables. He was a 1966 graduate of Oakcrest High School and started his career after a two year active enlistment with the Navy during a six year reserve of duty, by huckstering produce to area locals which eventually led to acquiring Kennedy's Farm Market in Galloway Township. It is here after 35 years of operation where he met and gave out wonderful advice on agriculture to many loyal customers who became good friends. Working alongside his family, wife and children he became known in the community as a faithful, hard-working honest Christian who always had a smile on his face and joke for all who came to shop. Lenny loved to spend a majority of his time with family and friends. He also enjoyed many hobbies such as skiing, traveling, line-dancing, and collecting antique cars. After retiring in 2007 and due to a courageous baffle with ALS, he moved to Port Republic where he enjoyed leisure time with his family. His strong faith and love of the Lord helped him to keep a positive outlook, which was an inspiration to the many friends and acquaintances he came into contact with each day. Lenny is and forever, will be held in high regard to all those who knew him along with his unforgettable character. He served his country, he served his family and He served His Lord. A Memorial Service will be held at Beacon Church in Galloway Township open to all friends and family on Monday June 30th at 6:30 p.m. A private burial service will be held on Tuesday, July 1st at the Veterans Cemetery in Atlantic County Park in Estell Manor. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be sent to the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260 Ambler, PA 19002-2755. Uncle Lenny is a person I will never forget, even though he only knew me for 12 years. he was always filled with happiness inside, and I look up to him for that. He must've been the nicest man I knew; he was such a holy man too. Everytime I came to visit, he would have us all pray before we left; that was so inspiring. Until God decides its my time; he will always be carried in my thoughts.

Dear Bette ,girls and Kennedy family,
What an inspiration. Lenny was a blessed man. He was always so positive even in such trying times. I'm so happy I had the opportunity to get to know all of you through the years. The service for Lenny was very moving and showed what faith in the Lord can do. I always thought highly of your family and your Christian beliefs. Lenny surely shines like the brightest star in the heavens. I 'll remember him with every flower,or seed or vegetable that I plant. And they'll grow because of him. Love you all . I miss running up the street to grab a flower to fill an empty spot in my garden or to let Annie feed the fish or greet the customers!! RIP Lenny

LENNY KENNEDY JR. BORN 10.06.1947 WENT TO TEND GOD'S GREEN HOUSES 06.18.08
When I first moved to Absecon 22 years ago. I went to "Kennedys Farm Market"
Plump and pregnant as a watermelon. I quess I fit in... I met Lenny and Sharon his sister they took me on a tour of the property there I met Bette and there four girls Brooke,Shelly,Dawn & Holly. The girls were swimming and playing on the swing set in the yard. The unbelievable aroma from the beautiful flowers that adorned the farm market and the unbelievable friendship I made in a moments time.
That grew for many years.
And my love for the garden and all its creatures. So every perennial, annual and vegetable I plant, I plant in Lenny's Garden, for the KENNEDY'S Thank you for being in my life. "GODS WILL"

Lenny was truly a friend and we will miss him. His kind and gentle spirit radiated continuously every time we met. His positive attitude is a great tribute for his love and faith he had for his Saviour. One thing is for certain, he heard the words we ourselves long to hear, "Well done thy good and faithful servant". We know comfort will be yours through Lenny's memories and knowing you to will see him again.

Bette and Family,
I have only met Lenny a few times in the past years but ever time he came onto the farm he greeted me as a long lost friend. We shared many stories about produce, flowers and just life. He was a kind man with a great passion for his work. He took pride in giving his custmors only the very best of the "Jersy Fresh". Even though he suffer so, one couldn't tell it by his smile or the pleasant words he spoke, The world has lost a great man. I thank God there are people in this world like Lenny who have touch my life in the smallest of ways.
My God Bless all of you.

As the youngest of the Kennedy clan I don't have the same fond memories of the family farm as my older siblings, however there are plenty of fond memories of the farm market years. Looking back through time I see how Lenny & Bettes' girls have grown and changed and blossomed into the wonderful, caring and beautiful adults they are today thanks to their parents. Lenny truly cherished his family and it shows in the individuals they have become. I looked to Lenny as a Father figure when our own Father passed away many years ago. He always gave me the courage and strength I needed to carry on even though he may not have known it. Everytime I start to shed some tears I think of something funny Lenny did or see his smiling face. I know he is truly in a better place with Dad, Lorraine, Daniel, Mrs. Brown and all those who have passed on before him. He is now in our precious heavenly Fathers care. Even though I am saddened deeply by his passing I have the hope of meeting up with him again in heaven. God Bless you Bette for your faithful, unending love and dedication to my Brother.
Love you,
Fernie

I feel so lucky to have grown up with an uncle like you. I have so many great memories working at the market and hanging out with the girls. For that i thank you so much. You were a great businessman and an even better family man. Thank you for all the memories.

As his daughter, I was so richly blessed to have this amazing man to look up to throughout my life. He has made me the person I am today. It's in his steps I can only hope to follow; and what a blessing to know the steps he followed were those of our heavenly father. It is what gives me peace, knowing that when I see him again in heaven with that big smile he will once again lead me to our heavelnly father as he did on earth. There we will all rejoice as we are all together once again, so for now I will hold on to the memories that made us all laugh.

To the Kennedy Family...One of my most fondest memories is the summer of 1971 when I spent so much time at the Kennedy Farm in Pomona, due to my dear friend, Sharon, Lenny's sister, and the kindness of Mr. & Mrs. Kennedy. My family used to look forward to "Lenny the Huckster" coming around. Then throughout the years buying numerous plants and trees from him and getting all kinds of great advice on how nurture them.
Lenny was truly one of those great family men. Take comfort in knowing that you now have another guardian angel to watch over you.
May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of good times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.
May God bless you all & may the love of family and friends carry you through your grief.

Bette, Brook and family, How truly sorry I am for your loss, I like many others adored Lenny. Growing up your family was my second home and a majority of my memories involve the Kennedy clan. I was always greeted by Bette and Lenny with a warm hug and smile and I always knew I was welcomed. Lenny had a way of pushing me to try harder and gave me faith I could accomplish anything. I love all of you, and like many many others, will miss Lenny. How lucky you girls are to call him Dad. You are as always in my thoughts and prayers.

LENNY was the kind of friend we all want to have.
As a young boy, we all loved to hang with him at his father's farm and check out all the old cars there. He was the friendliest kid with a good heart and always present smile. As an adult, his ethics of hard work, love of family and maintaining loyal friendships lived on.
In business, he was an honest, compassionate soul who was an inspiration to all who knew him.
I am proud to have known him and call him my friend. We will miss his bright light forever.

I was so saddened to hear of Lenny's passing. Over the years he and your family went from someone I knew at the gym and market to friends. We shared our first attempts at skydiving-He and Shelly giving me the courage, simply by not having any fear. He also helped me down the black diamond slope being ever so patient and pretended to be tired when we made it to the bottom so I wouldnt be alone and had some hot cocoa. This was the kind of man that Lenny was, and he was that way with everyone. As is his family.
Although I have moved from the area and rarely get the chance to see you all-you remain in my heart and thoughts-and naturally my prayers. And the sign of true friends and good people-no matter how long its been -when I do get the chance to stop in, its like I was there just the day before.
I feel grateful to have known Lenny and all of you. I thank you all for sharing him with all of us.
My heart goes out to all of you....with much love, Sandy
