Raymond Cooper Obituary

COOPER, RAYMOND F., 85 - of Honey Brook, PA, formerly of N. Cape May, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 in Honey Brook. Born in Philadelphia, PA he was a 25 year resident of Folcroft, PA and 30 year resident of North Cape May before moving to Honey Brook. Ray was a 37 year employee of the General Electric Corporation of Philadelphia. He was a WW II Army veteran having served from 1943-1946 in the 83rd infantry division and receiving the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and the Victory Metal. He served with the Marine Corps Reserves from 1946-1950. Ray was a life member of the Charles Buddy Lewis VFW Post of the Villas, Life Member of George Dramis Detachment Marine Corp League Inc., Life Member of Girard College Alumni class of 1940, American Legion Post 1000 of Trenton, Past Grand Knight of Stella Maris Knights of Columbus Council 3546 of Erma, 4th degree Knights of the Wildwood Assembly 671 where he served as Faithful Navigator two years and former District Deputy four years. Ray was a former Eucharistic Minister and member of the Finance and Budget Committee of St. John of God R.C. Church, N. Cape May. He also is a recipient of the Bishops Medal of Service and a 19 gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross. He was also a part-time assistant for Evoy Funeral Home, N. Cape May for 22 years. He was married 58 years to the late Eleanor Busse Cooper who died in 1999 and father to the late Thomas Cooper (2007). Surviving are his children, Barbara (Edward) Gannon of Collingdale, PA, Raymond (Patricia) of Aston, PA, Gary (Michelle) of Downingtown, PA, daughter-in-law Winnie Cooper of Downingtown, PA, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008, 11 a.m. at the St. John of God R.C. Church, 680 Townbank Rd., North Cape May. Burial will follow at the Cape May Co. Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House. Viewing Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, N. Cape May and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory to the Stella Maris K of C Council 3546 Charity Fund, 324 Breakwater Road, Erma, NJ 08204.

Ray will always be remembered as a dedicated, hardworking and highly respected Knight. He was valued for his opinions and shared our principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Partiotism. He will be missed.
