Robert Dickerson Obituary

DICKERSON, ROBERT E., SR., 73 - of Port Norris, died Saturday at South Jersey Healthcare Hospice Inpatient Center in Bridgeton. Born in Somers Point, he was the son of the late William K. and Reta Collins Dickenson and the husband of Sally DiGrazio Dickenson. Bob was formerly of Millville and resided in Port Norris the past 38 years. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran receiving a National Defense Service Medal. After the war he became a mold maker at the former Armstrong Cork, later becoming Foster Forbes and retiring after 43 years. Bob was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Port Norris, he was a member of the Port Norris Fire Company serving as Captain, Asst. Chief, and Commissioner, he could always be counted on for frying "golden brown" oysters for their dinners. He was one of the founders of Venatores Gunning Club, he was Past President of St. Mary Magdalen School PTA, he coached Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball, and Millville Midget Football. Bob was a member of the Millville Elks Lodge, Nabb-Leslie Post of the American Legion, Millville V.F.W. and the Shekinab Masonic Lodge in Millville. Surviving are his wife, Sally, children, Robert E. and Christa Dickenson, Jr. of Vineland, Clay and Julie Pettit of Belleplain, Luke and Rita Pettit of Port Norris, grandchildren, Nicole, Jagger, Jetta Pettit, Bobby, Brooke, Bailey Dickenson, and Chetta & Lily DeFabrites, brother & sisters in law, Bill & Joan Hulitt, Guy & Anna DeFabrites, and Mary Rodgers, Florence "Flossie" Dickenson and many nieces, nephews and God children. He was predeceased by his brothers, William K., Harold, Carlos, John Dickenson and Ed Barsuglia. Viewing will be held at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland on Wednesday evening June 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday June 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 160 Main St. Cedarville with Rev. William Bleiler officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Haleyville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to South Jersey Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Center, 333 Irving Ave. Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or Port Norris Fire Company P.O. Box 115 Port Norris, NJ 08349.
