Darthea Van Mourik Obituary

VAN MOURIK, DARTHEA, 81 - of North Cape May, died peacefully Saturday evening, June 21st, at the home she shared with her daughter in North Cape May. Mrs. Van Mourik was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late James and Myrtle (Bland) Donaldson. She formerly lived in Lansdowne, Pa., and has been a resident here for 30 years. She was a singer/soloist and had sung at many churches in the Philadelphia area including Ninth Presbyterian Church, Epiphany Sherwood Church, and Sayres Methodist Church, along with many others. After moving to the Cape May area, she was a soloist at several local churches including the Church of the Advent, and Covenant Presbyterian Church. While living in Philadelphia she also sang at many weddings, anniversaries, and multiple other occasions. She was a graduate of West Philadelphia High School, Class of 1945. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fishing Creek. Mrs. Van Mourik was predeceased by husbands Frank D. Geerken in 1976, and Peter Van Mourik in 1998. She is survived by: her daughter with whom she lived, Joan Elizabeth Godfrey; a son, Kenneth Geerken, of Lansdowne, Pa; a sister, Myrtle Schopfer (age 91); and three grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fishing Creek and Bayshore Roads, Lower Township. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Lansdowne, Pa. At Darthea's request, any memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fishing Creek Road, Fishing Creek, NJ 08204. (Sudak-Danaher FH, Cape May)
