Mona Spegele Obituary
SPEGELE ROUSSEAU, MONA RUTH - of Cape May Point, was born October 23, 1921 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of six children, including a twin brother. A 1938 graduate of Rostraver Township High School, Mona earned her RN degree from Western Pennsylvania Hospital in 1942. She served in the Navy as a nurse from 1943-1945, honorably discharged as a Lieutenant JG. She received her BS degree from West Chester State Teachers College in 1962. She worked as a gynecological nurse, a school nurse and a hospice nurse. She was a volunteer for the Springfield Volunteer ambulance Corps from 1968-1973. She helped establish the Rostraver Township Emergency Medical Service, and was an EMT trainer for that corps. Mona married Rudolf E. Spegele on August 4, 1945, and they celebrated 55 anniversaries. They had four children, Mona Lee, Judith Paula, Mary Jean and Rudolf Richard. They raised their family primarily in Springfield, PA, and then relocated to Belle Vernon, PA for 14 years. Summer residents since 1947, Mona and Rudy permanently moved to Cape May Point in 1987. They were active in the Beadle Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church and the Cape May Point Civic Club. Mona was full of life, yet had a gentle spirit. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid reader, a prolific baker, an intrepid traveler, a formidable scrabble and bridge player, and an enthusiastic Sunday school teacher and youth fellowship leader. She had a quick wit, contagious smile and boundless enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed much happiness over the years through her faith in God, her loving family, her appreciation of music and her delight in her extended family and friends. Her husband, Rudy and daughter Judy predeceased Mona. She is survived by children Mona, Mary, and Dick, grandchildren Pam, Brian, Julie, Steve, Karli, Chrissie, and Dan, and great-grandchildren Caden and Cameron. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28th at the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church in Cold Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beadle Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cape May Point and to the 300th Anniversary Renovations Fund of the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.
