Fred Potenza Obituary

POTENZA, FRED A., 86 - of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at home. He was born in Manhattan, New York on September 27, 1921 to the late Teresa (Solimando) and Jack Potenza. An Air Force Veteran, he served as Technician Fifth Grade in Engineering in Mitchell Field, Long Island, Canton Island and Johnson Island (Guam). He later moved to Staten Island, New York and worked as a Local 3 Electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union for 46 years. One of his finest jobs was putting the necklace lights on the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. His grandchildren referred to this as "Grandpa's Bridge." His past times included racing homing pigeons and thoroughbred racehorses for 20 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of St. Bernadette since moving to Northfield 21 years ago. He was an active member in the Sons of Italy Antonio Meucci Lodge and was also an avid bocce player. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marjorie (DeCataldo) and his three children, Jack (Nancy) of Millsboro, Delaware, Frank (Judy)of Ortley Beach, New Jersey and Marjorie Fopeano (Richard) of Northfield; his sister Rosalie Facciola (Bob) of Staten Island and four grandchildren. Relatives and Friends may call on Saturday, July 12, 2008 from 10am until 11am at the Church of St. Bernadette, 1421 New Road, Northfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11am at the Church of St. Bernadette. Interment will be held at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor. Donations may be made to the Church of St. Bernadette at the above address or to the Northfield Rescue Squad, 1600 Shore Road, Northfield, New Jersey 08225. Arrangements entrusted to and condolences may be sent to the family at www.adams-perfect.com
