Eleanor Cohen Forman

FORMAN, ELEANOR COHEN, 94 - of Atlantic City, educator, homemaker, and "Woman of Valor", died on July 10, 2008 at the Watermark Senior Residence in Philadelphia. Born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, she came to Atlantic City in 1939 as the bride of the late Solomon Forman, who for many years was an Atlantic City prosecutor. The oldest of four daughters, Mrs. Forman helped raise her sisters when her father died. She became a medical technologist, yet her grea role was that of mother, homemaker and teacher. She taught nursery school in the 1950's and 1960's at Beth Judah in Ventnor. "To the day she died, she could recall every child she taught, and was able to talk about their personalities", said her daughter, Nessa Forman. She was later the Beth Judah Hebrew School Administrator. Judaism was an important part of her life. She was the first woman to serve on the board of Rodef Sholom, an orthodox synagogue in Atlantic City, where she belonged to the Sisterhood and was honored as their "Woman of Valor" several years ago. "My mother exemplified what being a Woman of Valor meant, which is a reference to a hymn recited Friday evenings by a husband before the Sabbath meal", said her daughter. "The hymn gives thanks for all that his wife has done for the family that week." She was a great mom, recalled her daughter. She instilled in her children how to be caring, loving, philanthropic, independent, and above all to value education. Mrs. Forman was also a member of Beth Judah and its sisterhood, along with being a member of ORT, and a lifelong member of Hadassah. She was pre-deceased by her son, David A. Forman, Esq., and two sisters, Jeanette Katz and Irma Master. Besides her daughter Nessa, she is survived by her sister Yvette Heller of Johnstown, PA as well as her nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services, Sunday, July 13th, 1pm, at Rodef Sholom Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp,.
