John Meehan Obituary



MEEHAN, JOHN JAMES 68, - of Pensacola, FL, passed away on June 13, 2008, following a brave battle with cancer. He was a former resident of Far Rockaway, NY, Birmingham, AL, and Savannah, GA. He was born September 16th, 1939, in Atlantic City . He attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine School until 1952 when the family moved to Far Rockaway, NY. He went on to graduate from St. Mary Star of the Sea School (1953) and Far Rockaway HS (1957). John was a quiet and gentle soul who loved his family dearly and treasured the relationships he developed through the years with friends and neighbors. He served proudly in the US Marine Corps and was an avid musician who played guitar, harmonica, and several other instruments. He played for many years with the Harmonicas of Alabama and performed for former First Lady Barbara Bush and Alabama Governor Guy Hunt. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Sherry, of Pensacola; sons Brad (Christine) of Amherst, NH, and John (Tammy) of Seattle, WA; stepson, Richard Davis, of Indianapolis, IN, and grandchildren Colin, Alicia, and Erica of Amherst, and Brianna and Sean of Seattle. He is also survived by sisters Susan (Ronald) Resua of Inwood, NY, Marguerite "Peggy" (Jack) Gallagher of New Port Richey, FL, brother Peter (Margaret) Meehan of Lynbrook, NY , father-in-law Richard Brewer of Pensacola, FL, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. John is preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Mohan Meehan) Dunnion, father John James Meehan, step-father John Dunnion, and mother-in-law Judy Brewer. Funeral services were held on June 17, 2008, at the Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Father Jack Gray officiating. Interment followed at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
