Sue Cohen Obituary

COHEN, SUE A. 91 - of Linwood, N.J. died on July 11 at home. Born in Bangor, Me., and longtime resident of Worcester, Mass., and later Cape Cod, she moved with her husband, Melvin, to Linwood 15 years ago. Mrs. Cohen was active for more than 30 years in Brandeis University's National Women's Committee and was a member of its board. She was a lover of the arts, a devotee of opera and classical music, and a longtime patron of the Boston Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. She graduated from Hickock Secretarial School and Girls' Public Latin School in Boston. She worked as a bookkeeper in the leather industry in Boston and later for the Worcester Jewish Federation as an administrative assistant. She was a member for many years of World ORT-a world-wide Jewish charity-the National Council of Jewish Women and other women's charitable organizations. She was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel in Worcester, Beth Israel Synagogue in Worcester and Congregation Beth Israel in Linwood. She leaves her husband, Melvin, who was the former executive director of the Worcester Jewish Federation and the New York and New England regional consultant for the Council of Jewish Federations in New York City; a sister, Esther, of Phoenix, Az.; three living sons, Fredric of Rio Rancho, N.M., Bernard of Linwood, and Gerald of Lewisburg, Pa.; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight nephews and nieces. She is pre-deceased by a son, Donald. Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services Sunday, July 13th, 1 p.m., at Beth Israel Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp. Shiva will be observed Sunday through Tuesday at the Cohen residence in Linwood. Arr. Roth-Goldsteins' Memorial Chapel, Atlantic City
