Paul Mazzone Obituary

MAZZONE, PAUL SR. 931/2- of Atlantic City, NJ was called home peacefully by the lord on July 8, 2008, to be with his loving wife Betty, who predeceased him in 1999. Paul was an Atlantic City resident his entire life. He served honorably in WW II as a staff sergeant in the Army Infantry. He was a lifelong supporter of veteran organizations, the military and our government. From the time he was a little boy selling newspapers he never stopped working. He had several careers over his lifetime, always finding something else to do. He was an amazing man, only 5'2", but to those who new him he was a giant. Up until the time of his passing he was still gainfully employed as a sergeant in security at the Atlantic City Convention Center, working 5 days - 40 hours per week. He did this not because he had to, but because he loved his job. We would not be surprised if he is now guarding the gate for Saint Peter. Paul was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the history of Atlantic City and he had a photographic memory relating to sports of any kind. He was "old school" and always placed his family first. He loved to play the lottery, take care of his prize winning hydrangeas and walk his dog. He was a kind, generous, loving man who at 93 would hold a door open, and let you enter first. He was polite, he was considerate, and he was a gentleman. Paul had a wonderful life, and he did it his way right to the very end, with his family by his side. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by his son, Paul Jr., his grandchildren, extended family, co-workers at the convention center and the many other people whose life he touched over the years. To those of us that must continue here on earth without him and the benefit of his love, friendship and cheerful smile there is only one way to describe him and his remarkable life. HE IS A LEGEND! We love you pop, and we will always have you in our hearts until we meet again. At his request, funeral arrangements are being made by Jeffries & Keates Funeral Home and will be private. Contributions may be made in Paul's memory to any charity of your choice.

There wasn't a day that I didn't ask if anyone saw you and asked how you were doing. Our Mom always did something special for all her kids. Since yours and Betty's birthdays fell on the same day, January 25th, she always ordered a cake from Kent's restaurant. On one occasion when you took a bite you tasted soap. They had given you the floor sample by mistake. They made another one for you and Betty. The two of you were always there for me when I needed you. I love both of you. Your sister Millie.

DEAR COUSIN PAUL,

I AM SO SORRY WE HAVE LOST CONTACT OVER THE YEARS, AND I NEVER REALLY GOT TO KNOW YOU. MY MEMORIES OF YOUR MOM AND DAD ARE THAT THEY WERE WARM, KIND PEOPLE. I REMEMBER MY MOM (ALICE) DOING ALTERATIONS FOR YOUR MOM BECAUSE SHE HAD SUCH A TINY WAIST. SHE ALWAYS HAD A BEAUTIFUL SMILE WHEN I USED TO SEE HER AT THE TROPICANA. I KNOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MUST MISS THEM BOTH, BUT I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE MANY, MANY HAPPY MEMORIES OF THEM.

I HOPE THAT WE CAN BECOME REACQUAINTED, AND I SEND MY LOVE.

SINCERELY, YOUR COUSIN GRETCHEN

I regret I have been unable to keep in touch with my Uncle Paul over the years. He and my father, Joseph Mazzone Sr. (Paul's brother) looked so much alike.

I remember him when he was in the Army and later came home safe and sound. He played softball as I watched and shot "Pool" at Harpy's Pool Room.

His mother (my Grandmother) always cooked an Italian dinner on Sundays when we would all get together. He surely will be guarding the pearly gates and I hope he recognizes me when I get there.

God looked around his garden,
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this Earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never,
Get well on Earth again.

He saw that the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, "Peace by Thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

We love you, and miss you Pop-Pop.

Love Always,
Annabelle & Joanna
