Erick Bradley Obituary

BRADLEY, ERICK NATHANIEL, AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS "99 PROBLEMS", 21 - of Atlantic City, departed this life on Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Kennedy HealthCare system, Washington Township after years of enduring terminal illness. He graduated from Atlantic City High School, with the class of 2005. He was affiliated with Second Baptist Church, of Atlantic City. Erick was very energetic and always active. His dream was to go to college and become a Psychoanalyst. Erick played the Saxophone for the Atlantic City High School Marching Band, was a member of the NAACP Youth Council - Atlantic City branch, a member of the Atlantic City dance group Hypnotize, was a student at Richard Stockton State College of NJ from September 2005 to present where he majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology, a member of United Black Student's Society also at Richard Stockton State College of NJ. He attended Rutgers University's "Transition for Youth" summer internship program for two years. Throughout his life, he participated in numerous plays as the lead actor. Erick spoke up for those with Sickle Cell Anemia, and created videos for the NJ State Division of Youth and Family Services to help the sick, homeless, and at risk youth. He was an amazing mentor for underserved youth and excelled in this capacity, whether locally or afar. Erick also started his own business "Sequence Entertainment". Erick received the "Quality Candidate" & "Most Eclectic" awards. He served as a Teaching Assistant in various acting classes for students ages 6-12 in New Brunswick. He was the leading star in his first movie coming soon from Leader of the Pack productions movie entitled "Off Campus: The Movie". Erick played the role of Neburt who was a (Zen) peaceful monk - in touch with his spiritual side and video games. This would be Erick's last treat and performance for us. It will be a first for many to see him. Erick was a very special person who loved the children and never complained about his own personal pain. Instead, Erick chose to fulfill his purpose and dreams in life, by touching all of us through dance, laughter, music, poetry, acting, education and the willpower to overcome all obstacles in life including sickness. Predeceased by his little sister, Courtney M. Bradley-Pope. He leaves to cherish his fond memory: His guardian, father, mentor and caretaker, Steven L. Young; His mother - Charlena F. Berry (Stevie); His siblings: Leon N. Brown, Shaunte' N. Berry, Lewis M. Neal, Dominique M. Thompson, Mikhail J. Anderson, and Cory W. Berry; his grandparents: Ms. Diane E. Pope (Eddie), Mr. Carver W. Berry, Sr.; Uncle Carver W. Berry; Aunt Annette, Jr., and Aunt Monique Berry; extended family: Arthur Neal, Charles Neal, Toodie and Ashley Brown, Mr. & Mrs. William Cash, Rev. & Mrs. Larry Thompson, and Jackay Lawrence and a host of family, and his brothers of Omega Phsi Phi Fraternity. Funeral services will be held @ 11a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008, at the All Wars Memorial Building, New York and Adriatic avenues, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 9a.m. Interment will follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville. I just found out today and I am in total disbelief. I checked every source I could find to disprove that fact that you are no longer with us. I still don't really know what to say or think. TOO YOUNG and TOO SOON. The last message I received from you was an invite to your show in NYC. I was so excited for you. I even commented on how happy I was. I'm just in shock right now.
Your energy and lively spirit will definitley be missed.

Until we meet again...........RIP..............

To Erick’s family and friends;
I want to express my deepest condolences. I worked with Erick for just a few short weeks at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick. From the little time that we knew Erick he had a great impact on everybody here at the theater. No doubt Erick was special. He had a spark…he made us laugh… he was amazing to watch…. but most of all, he had a way with the kids. What an amazing impact he had on these young lives. Today, there was a little boy wearing a wristband, “The same kind Mr. Erick wore.” Even still we were playing a game called, “Cross the Circle” Where the children say, “If you are wearing a blue shirt/red shoes/etc… cross the circle” One little girl, volunteered, “If you miss Mr. Erick… cross the circle.” and all these little ones exchanged spots with one another.
Erick-
Thank you for touching our lives. You are missed.

Erick,
Even as I sit and sign your guest book I still cannot believe it. I continue to replay our last conversation and remember you saying if you ever got reincarnated, your next life would be boring lol because you LIVED and did so much while you were here. Your life has led an example for many including myself. I have learned to not let my current situations define me and get me down, instead I am going to LIVE life and cherish each day like you did. I miss you Erick and will never forget you. May you rest in peace with our Heavenly Father.

Love always,

Nathaniel,
My heart was saddened when I heard of your passing, however I am smiling because I know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I am so proud to have known you. There are so many wonderful memories of you that I have to reflect on: your poetry that brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart, your amazingly funny sense of humor, your wonderful dance, performance, and creative abilities, your dedication and commitment to whatever you were doing, your frienship with my son (Quay) and the time you spent with my family, and all the hours, hard work, and fun we had as part of the family of Hypnotize Dance Group. So many more memories of you I have to cherish. You have accomplished much, a job well done, rest now. You will always hold a special place in my heart. Love to you and for you always.

From staying across the street from ecah other in camden and not even knowing it, to you coming into my chemistry class in high school and running down my personal information making it known that you know who I am. Our long talks on the phone about anything and everything ( even when your lights went out). From the M&M's I brought you that you never threw away to the Tropical Skittles you brought me that I ate.
There are so many things that will never be forgotten about you. No one would actually know how much you've been through in your life because you never showed it. You lived each day as if it were your last and I admire that about you. You are the strongest man that I've ever met and probably ever will meet. I love you Erick AKA "Camden" & I always will.

To the Family of "Mr. Erick",
I can't begin to tell you how sorry we are for your loss.
Erick was a favorite teacher of my son Kelly's at the George Street Playhouse Summer Program. He spoke so afffectionately about the time he spent with "Mr. Erick" playing games and learning so much about theater. For someone to have accomplished and given so much his few short years is truly inspirational. As a Stockton Alumnus myself, I take great pride in knowing that I share that bond with such a fine young man.

Erik was a beautiful person with a beautiful and peaceful spirit. We had the pleasure of meeting Erik during his time spent with the EOF program offered through Stockton College. My husband spent much time with Erik and everytime we went to visit or for every event held by his fraternity brothers with each and every encounter he always had a big smile on his face. His presence will be missed especially during this time when our strong, positive, and motivated, young black men are needed to help encourage one another to be more in life then just a face. Erik was indeed apart of that moment, but now my friend GOD has called you home to be apart of a bigger movement. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Poem for Erick

Sometimes it’s hard to understand
Why some things have to be,
But in His Wisdom, God has planned,
Beyond our power to see.
God watched you as you suffered,
And knew you had your share,
He gently closed your loving eyes,
And took you in His Care.

In life we love you still
And in our hearts,
you hold a place,
That no one else can fill.

Thanks to God, we have our memory
To cherish our whole life through,
And the sweetness will linger forever,
As we treasure the image of you.

My Thoughts and Prayers go out to all friends, family members, and acquaintances of our beloved Erick.

Erick exuded a confidence in his own abilities that many of us today may still be in search of. His God-given talents when on display were surely a sight for one to see. In his struggles with his illness, he never complained because he made it his life's work to show people, in spite of it all, he could accomplish anything. That being so, I would like to let all who knew him and those that did not, that he exhibited a magnetizing personality, that was so "genuine" and "true."

I am extremely thankful to him for helping my child gain a better understanding of her illness and the day-to-day coping skills that would be greatly needed during her bouts with Sickle Cell Disease. Furthermore, I am thankful because he accompanied me to various forums that brought "awareness" and "truth" to Medical Professionals, Parents, and Children who were connected to or faced with various issues concerning Sickle Cell Anemia.

Erick truly was sent from God, during a time in our lives when he was most needed. Upon becoming an active participant in our lives, we stand devoted to blessing others through his legacy and his message of "living life to the fullest."

From where I stand I can firmly say that Erick was precious to me, my husband, and children. In my family, he shall be remembered as an "older brother" and a "beloved son." I must end this message with knowing that his perseverance shall be an example to us all.

Lovingly Submitted by,
The Bell Family

Eric was an outstanding band student at Atlantic City High School. He really exemplified "Viking Spirit" even though he wasn't always well enough to perform with the band. He was a frequent visitor in the band stands and we enjoyed time together at the 2007 Holy Spirit game on Thanksgiving. His lefe and spirit should be celebrated and our band is fortunate to have encountered such a fine young man.

Erick i'm so sorry for all the times we didn't share that we could have. My family and I most definitely will miss you so much. You were my first friend when I moved to Camden. We grew up together and though you moved to A. C. you knew my home was always your home. I am hurting because you've left us but I am happy because you lived a good life. You've had a impact on everyone. I'm sorry I didn't see you that day, and I will regret it forever, but know that I Love You and Miss You always. Muahz

I had the honor & priviledge of being in classes with Erick @ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. When I say it was an honor & priviledge, it was just that. I was also his mom in the play "Iziko:Once Upon A Stoop". It was so much fun working with him on & off stage. He also became a big-brother and role model to my daughter, Alexia.
To his family, I am sorry for your loss but I am so very grateful that he will not have to suffer from the pain of that disease ever again.
I am glad, son, that you have moved to the next leg of the journey. Heaven has gained one of the greatest dancers and comics from this side. Erick, teach the angels above the "two-step" for me.
We MISS and LOVE You Dearly Erick!

My prayers are with you Erick, you will be deeply missed by all you ever known. Your spirit will live on forever, and I know you will smile down upon all of your family and friends. Taken from this earth so young, with so many dreams to follow in life.

I met Erick at Stockton College while we were rehearsing for the play Iziko: Once Upon a Stoop. Erick played the lead role Terrence, and I played one of the racist police officers. It was a very tough role for me to play, completely the opposite of who I am.

Erick using his great sense of humor and his ability to mentor others helped me along and gave me the strength to pursue that role and tell the story of the play. With out Erick I don’t think I could have done it. His encouragement guided me to be the best, and we put on a great show.

I will miss him, I will miss seeing him in the halls of Stockton, sending messages on Facebook, and seeing him at fraternity gatherings.

I will say a prayer and light a candle for you and your family.

Always in our hearts
