Frances Bates Obituary

BATES, FRANCES L. 73 - of Port Norris, died Friday evening at Millville Center in Millville. Born in Florence, SC she was the daughter of the late Willard and Sarah Powers Lawhon. She was a Port Norris resident for over 45 years. She was a waitress at the Palomino Restaurant in Port Norris and had owned and operated the Oyster Cove Restaurant also in Port Norris, later she worked for various restaurants waitressing, and most recently she worked for Bally's Grande Casino in Atlantic City. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics and crossword puzzles. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Parker Stowman and Lynn and Charles Moore all of Port Norris, sisters, Barbara Griggs of Millville and Louisa Frazier of Bishopville, SC, grandchildren, Melanie Calisti and Alan Moore and a great grandson, Colin Calisti. She was predeceased by her son Edward Bryan Bates and sister Patricia Eubanks. Graveside services will be held at Haleyville Cemetery on Thursday August 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. James Peterson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements are being handled by Hoffman Funeral Homes, Port Norris.
