Paul Bohrer Obituary



BOHRER, PAUL CROSBEE 88 - of Egg Harbor Township, NJ passed away Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus. Born on March 22, 1920 in Newark and raised in Belleville, Paul was a decorated Marine Sgt., serving eight years during WWII. A member of the 1st and 5th Marine Divisions, he fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and New Guinea, and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor at Iwo Jima. He also participated in the occupation of Japan. An amateur boxer and gymnast, Paul became involved in coaching gymnastics at the Paterson YMCA. He was instrumental in the founding of the New Jersey Gymnastics Assoc. in 1963, which organized and unified competition throughout the state, and also trained coaches. In 1973, he founded one of the first private gymnastics academies in New Jersey, now known as North Stars. A resident of Wayne for 35 years, Paul was also a nature lover and amateur herpetologist. He was a member of the Cardiff VFW Post 8098, the Marine Corps League and the Shore Mall Walkers. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edith; his children, Judy Grenfell (Bill), Doug (Robin); grandchildren: Katy and Maggie Grenfell, and Kacey and Corinne Bohrer. He is predeceased by his three sisters: Olive, Doris and June; and his grandson, Philip Bohrer. He will also be missed by the many coaches, judges and gymnasts he nurtured through the years. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, from 7-9 p.m. at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. A service will be held on Wednesday, August 13th, at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Paul's memory to Holy Redeemer Visiting Nurses Assoc., 6550 Delilah Road, #501, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234. Paul and his beloved Edith are two of the kindest, sweetest people I have known. Not only have they been wonderful in-laws to my daughter, Robin, I have considered them good friends.
