Mary Phalen Obituary

PHALEN, MARY LOU - of Ocean City, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Fall River, Mass., and formerly of Towaco, before moving to Ocean City 19 years ago. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Ocean City. At Holy Trinity, she was treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women, member of the St. Mary's Guild, Alter Guild and Co-Chair of Sisters of Ruth. She was a member of The National Cathedral Association, Washington, D.C. and the Married Couples Club of Ocean City. She had worked as a Nursery School Teacher at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Holliston, MA and at St. Andrew's in Lincoln Park. She had also worked as a Secretary at Fairfield Township, Construction Department. She is survived by her husband of 54 years; John E. Phalen of Ocean City, one son; Michael J. Phalen and his wife Kristen of Battle Ground, WA., two daughters; Pamela A. Vasta and her husband Thomas of Randolph, and Elizabeth J. Phalen and her spouse Margaret Laneri of Upton, Mass,. Mrs. Phalen is also survived by six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Kevin, Aleah, Shane and Ariana. Her Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be offered Friday Morning at half-past Ten o'clock from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 30th Street at Bay Avenue Ocean City, where friends may call from half-past nine o'clock until time of service at the church. Relatives and friends may also call Thursday evening from Seven o'clock until Nine o'clock from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo 644 S. Shore Road, Palermo. Burial will follow service in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House. The family suggests those who desire send memorial contributions to either Ocean City Local #27, F.M.B.A., 550 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226 or The Ocean City Police Benevolent Association #61, PO Box 293, Ocean City, NJ 08226. To the Phalen family...my deepest condolences for your loss. Your mother's gentle and sweet spirit always made me feel calm and cared for when ever I was in her presence. Her accepting and faithful heart was a gift and a legacy she leaves behind for all of you. God bless memory.
