William Etherington Obituary

ETHERINGTON, WILLIAM P., 89, - of Longport, On August 8, 2008, formerly of Gloucester City. Beloved husband of Florence Richardson (nee Alber). Loving father of Arnell Etherington and the late William P., Jr. He is also survived by his step-daughter Mary Mathews, and was "Uncle Bill" to the Mathews, Fountain and Anastasi families and a friend to many. We will miss our loving husband, father and friend. Mr. Etherington was the sole proprietor of the family owned business of Etherington Funeral Home for 48 years. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Force where he served as an Aerial Gunner on Bombers. Bill was an active member of his community, serving as a member and Past President (1958-1959) of the Gloucester City Rotary, a member of the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, was a Board member of the Camden Trust Bank, and loved attending the Old Timers Association meetings. He was also a member of the Collingswood-Cloud Lodge #101 F&AM, the Arwames Lodge #100 I.O.O.F., the West Jersey, State and the National Funeral Directors Associations and in Longport was a member of the Friendship Club and attended services at the Church of the Epiphany. Relatives and friends are invited to meet Thursday morning from 10:30 to 12:00noon at the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 POWELL ST., GLOUCESTER CITY. Burial Office and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 12:30pm at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Sussex and Ridgeway St.s, Gloucester City. Interment Harleigh Cemetery, Camden to follow. In lieu of flowers the Family has requested memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. A Memorial Service will be held in the near future at Church of the Epiphany in Longport, time and day will be announced in Church.
