John Broomhead Obituary



BROOMHEAD, JOHN J. SR., 64, - of Mays Landing, was born in Philadelphia on June 22, 1944 and lost his courageous, 18 year battle to cancer surrounded by his family and friends on August 15, 2008. He was retired from Trump Castle-Marina after 20 years of service. He was a member of IUOW Local 68 for 25 years. In his final years he went on numerous vacations with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise; son John Broomhead, Jr. and wife Denise, two daughters Kim Baum and husband Kenny and Kris Prouty and husband Rick; seven grandchildren: John Broomhead III; Amanda and Courtney Broomhead, Kayla & Kassidy Baum, and Kelci and Kyle Prouty; one great-grandson: Joey Broomhead; 10 brothers and sisters: Doris & Frank Brulenski, Edna & Tom Smith, Marylou & Howard McGrady, Ben & Betty Ann Broomhead, Rose Marie & John Sopan, Pat & John Orndorf, Kathleen & Ben Malchiodi, and Bobby & Judy Broomhead; sisters-in-law Ginny Broomhead and Eleanor Haggerty; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Adams and brothers Philip Broomhead, Sr. and George Haggerty, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, 11 AM, at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel, 6075 West Jersey Avenue, Egg Harbor Twp., where a viewing will be held from 9 AM until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Thomas Jefferson Cancer Research and mailed to The Jefferson Foundation, 925 Chestnut St., Suite 110, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or by phone 1-877-JEFF-GIFT or donations may be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Office of Institutional Advancement, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111.
