Andrew Smith Obituary

SMITH, ANDREW W., 26, - of Millville, passed away suddenly on Thursday August 14, 2008. In his youth, Andy was very active in sports. He enjoyed baseball and basketball, but his true passions were soccer, fishing, motorcycles and girls. He was a hard, conscientious worker and worked many jobs, often two or three at a time. He worked for Friendly's Restaurant, Red Lobster, The Paper Waiter, WaWa, Wheaton Scientific, Durand Glass Manufacturing Co. and United Lawn Care. But his favorite was Raritan Engineering for their employee friendly environment and career opportunities. He planned to work there until retirement; however, his career was cut short due to a near fatal car accident in 2003 that rendered him a paraplegic. In spite of this adversity, which only strengthened and defined his character, he was left with a desire to live every day to it's fullest with the most positive attitude imaginable. He touched the lives of all he encountered. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted parents, mother Katharine (Kitty Prickitt) Smith and father and step-mother Steve & Raelene (Simpson) Smith; adoring siblings Amy Smith and fiancee Dan Hayes; Lori (Calkin) Zerra, husband Andy and son Andrew; Ray Calkin and wife Stephanie, John Calkin, wife Tracy, children Kathlynn, Alyssa and Sean; Aunts & Uncles: Nancy Downer-Gardner (Alan), Susan Brunsvold (Peter), Kirk Prickitt (Allison), Connie DuBois (Tom), Jerry Smith (Linda), Judy Orlando (Tom), Arlene Cassalia and Connie Ford (Barry) many cousins and great aunts and uncles; Maternal grandparents Stanley Prickett and Alice Weiss. Andy was pre-deceased by his brother Timothy Smith; maternal grandmother Charlotte Prickitt and great aunt Paulina Hansen; Paternal grandparents Bob and Mary Smith and Raymond and Mary Simpson. Relatives & friends will be received on Tuesday morning August 19, 2008 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Pancoast Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Andy's name to Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church, 312 Daretown Rd., Daretown, NJ 08318 or to the Shirley Eves Developmental Center, 313 N.
