E. Richards Obituary

RICHARDS, E. ALDEN SR., "DADDY RICK" DR, 76, - of Ocean City, 8/26/1931 - 8/24/2008. passed away on August 24th from complications after surgery at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Pt. Alden lived in Ocean City, and North Shore, Hawaii. He was born and raised in Royersford, PA. and was the only son of Ethel and Edward Richards. He graduated from Royersford High School, Perkiomen Prep, and Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania 1954, and was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He was owner/partner of the Corinth Apartments for 13 years and for 28 years he taught science at Middle Twp. Middle School in Cape May Court House. During his life Alden loved traveling throughout the USA, Canada and Europe with his family and friends, but if you were to ask him his favorite place he would answer " Da Kine". Aloha, Da Kine...words you don't hear from most fathers.....DR was not like most fathers. His zest for life and having fun was exemplified in his retirement years. He enjoyed biking on the Ocean City boardwalk, he cherished the ocean and was an outgoing individual that looked at life as something that should be treasured and lived to the fullest. To the very end Alden connected with the young surfing culture while remaining loyal to his peers. He was unique, curious, sharp minded, quick witted, uproariously funny and people who met him remember him to this day because he knew how to make a first impression last a lifetime. Some consider him to be a force of nature and his legacy will live on through his family and friends. DR was well read. His love for literature and his quest for knowledge was well known among his peers and his family. He was an intense and captivating storyteller and when he spoke you listened. He excelled at making a short story long. A love for American Jazz was Alden's lifelong passion. His ear was perfect and his delight was contagious. Any friend of Dizzy's was a friend of Alden's. Some believe that the only true course that Alden put his heart and soul into was Jazz 101. As he passed on to his tropical paradise in the sky Ella Fitzgerald was singing Stardust. AMAZING! He will be forever missed by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine Lehman Richards, his five children Alden, Doug, Nancy, Jeff, Scott and their extended families and his sister Lynn Richards Keck. His final resting place will be in the waters off of Ocean City, and the North Shore of Hawaii. Allow love to flow freely around you and rest upon you. All of our LOVE and ALOHA are with you. The Ocean City High School Surfers award was established in 2006 by his grandson Mark D. Richards Jr. Mark was raised in Ocean City and thought of DR as his second father. He was much more than that...a teacher, mentor and role model for Mark. In lieu of flowers donations are in memory of E.
