Jean Cadiou Obituary



CADIOU, JEAN MARI LUCIEN 88 - of Linwood and recently of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law after a long battle with cancer. Born in Brittany, France in 1920 Jean joined the French Navy during the 2nd World War. His ship the cruiser Montcalm, one of three French war ships to escape from German occupation, came to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for a two week up-fit prior to the Normandy invasion, where he met his wife to be, Anne Cecelia Kerns. Under orders of General Eisenhower the Montcalm and the two remaining French ships were the first to fire upon French shores at the start of the Normandy invasion. Four years later he returned to the United States to marry Anne. Jean was a chef who worked at many of the landmark hotels of Philadelphia, California and Atlantic City, such as the Warwick, Biltmore and Traymore, finally being employed as lead chef at Strotbecks Bay Club in Margate for over 20 years. Predeceased by his daughter Cecelia, wife Anne and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Steet-Henderson, Jean is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Michele and Stephen Steet, son Jean Jay Cadiou and his fiancee Grace Patella, his loving companion of 25 years Kay Cibos and K9 friend Willow, grandchildren Jessica and husband Brian Devers, John and wife Charlie Jo Steet, Kevin and wife Denise Steet, Jason Cadiou and Danielle Cadiou. Great grandchildren Zackery, Angelina, and Angelica Devers and Hayley Henderson and her father Richard (Rick) Henderson. Jean enjoyed gardening, all wildlife and fishing. Services will be private, contributions or donations to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, 3625 Atlantic Brigantine Blvd, Brigantine, NJ 08203 or to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o HCR Manor Care Foundation, 333 N. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I will always remember him fondly. I have to say I can still remember hearing his wonderful accent from years ago when you lived on Coolidge Ave. It was always wonderful to run into your Mom and Dad through the years, they were such nice people.
