THOMPSON, GEORGE CARL, 94 - of Jensen Beach, FL, formerly of Cape May Court House, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Born November 18, 1913, in Rio Grande to the late Maurice Earl and Isabel McNaughton Thompson, he was raised in Cape May County and graduated from Middle Township High School in 1931. He married Margaret C. High Thanksgiving Eve, November 25, 1937. They happily celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage prior to her death in 1996. Mr. Thompson joined the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House in 1926. Prior to his death, he was the oldest living member of the congregation. He was a member of the Cannon Lodge No. 104, F&AM. During World War II, he worked at Wright-Paterson Aircraft in Paterson, NJ where he and his wife met life-long good friends, the DeMuths and the Hoefts. After the war, he worked for Gerald Barret Asphalt Co. and Stenecker Oil. He became the Principal Index Clerk in the Cape May County Clerk's Office, retiring in 1977 after serving for twenty six years. While at the Clerk's Office, he also worked at the Cape May Court House Post Office. Nicknamed "The Count" by his friends, he shared with his wife these common interests: music, dancing, yard sales, camping with the NTC, and fishing in the Delaware Bay. After he retired, they were "snowbirds" traveling south to Florida each winter where they enjoyed many good times with family and friends. In recent years, he relished music and entertainment. When handed a microphone, he was known to offer his favorite song: "When Your Old Wedding Ring Was New". At his assisted living home, he was a personable individual who encouraged others to participate in the social activities available. He was voted "King" of their first annual Valentine celebration. He was interested in current events, especially news of Cape May County. Survivors are sons: George K. Thompson (Margaret) of Cape May Court House; Ronald E. (Patrcia Wohlrab) and Robert C. of Jensen Beach, FL; grandchildren: William Thompson (Toni Charlesworth), Captain Richard Thompson (Nicole), Christine Mattison (John), and Adam Thompson (Kimberly); great-grandchildren: Julia Thompson, Ethan Mattison, Sabrina Thompson, and Symantha Cook; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by brother, William Thompson of Wildwood, and grandson, Robert N. Thompson of Cape May Court House. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Masonic Service at 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.
