Dorothy May Thieler

THIELER, DOROTHY MAY, 95 - of Somers Point, and Winter Park, FL died on September 18, 2008 at The Mayflower Retirement Community in Winter Park. Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 5, 1912, she graduated from Frankford High School and worked for the Budd Company in Philadelphia. There she met and subsequently married Dr. Edward R, Thieler, Jr. in 1935. Together they raised their family of four sons before retiring to their summer home in Somers Point in 1969. A self-taught artist, Mrs. Thieler enjoyed painting in watercolor. Although she was never engaged commercially, her paintings were eagerly sought by family, friends, and by church groups as auction items. She was also known for her abilities in other fine crafts such as needlepoint, petit point, crocheting, sewing, and knitting. Gardening and bowling were also hobbies at which she excelled. The family were long time members of both Cedar Park Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and Central Methodist Church in Linwood, where she was active women's groups. Predeceased by her husband in 1993, she is survived by the couple's sons: Edward R. Thieler III, MD, of Easton, MD; William R. Thieler, MD of Winter Park, FL; Richard M. Thieler of Clermont, FL, and George W. Thieler of Somers Point. Also surviving are her sister Elsie Faulconer of Philadelphia and brother William H. Uhlman of Holmes Beach, FL as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. According to her wishes cremation and disposition of ashes are private at the convenience of the family.
