H. Tzorfas Obituary

TZORFAS, H. BERNARD 73, - of Wildwood Crest, passed away on September 22, 2008 at Cape Regional Medical Center after an 11 year battle with prostate cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Bernard ("Bernie") was born on May 17, 1935 and spent his youth in poverty at 510 W. 18th Avenue in Newark, with his mother Esther, his father Abraham and his brother Jack. His youth was a great source of pride and beautiful memories spent with a dear and loving family. Against all odds, Bernie went on to graduate from Rutgers College of Pharmacy in 1956 with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He also attended Seton Hall University Business School and was a member of the United States National Guard. He loved classical Music, camping and listening to the Jack Benny radio program. He enjoyed collecting coins, clocks and pocket watches. Bernie married Barbara Gordon in 1957 and had a beautiful and devoted marriage for 51 years. Together they raised four children, Marc (wife Poonam), Scott (wife Jessica), Stephen and Michael. Bernard devoted his entire life to his wife and children. He supported his children in their educational pursuits and was a constant source of advice for them. His love for family knew o bounds and sacrifice for their benefit was his privilege. Bernard was an outspoken advocate for the State of Israel and its best interests. Bernard owned the Villas Pharmacy for over 30 years. He was a compassionate pharmacist whose duties went far beyond merely filling prescriptions. He was always available to give needed advice to his patients, who would often wait by the door for him to open the store. He went out of his way to employ semi-retired pharmacists. His patients never called him Mr. Tzorfas to them he was simply Bernie. He worked with passion and persistence. Bernard leaves behind his wife and four sons. He also leaves behind four grandsons - David, Matthew, Jeffrey and Roshan. He enjoyed spending time with them at every opportunity. Bernard lived his entire life for those who depended on him. His love was endless. For this, He will be missed deeply. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday 1pm at Alliance Cemetery, 970 Gershal Ave., Norma, (www.alliancecemetery.com). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Love of Linda Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 1053, Wildwood, N.J. 08260 or the Brendan Borek High Tides Fund, P.O. Box 41, Avalon, N.J. 08202.
