Philip N. Bessor Jr.

BESSOR, PHILIP N. JR. 88 - died Saturday October 4, 2008. Mr. Bessor was a lifetime Linwood resident, born in the home his father had built at 1426 Shore road, Linwood, NJ. Phil enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 8, 1941 the day after Pearl Harbor. He went overseas with the First Marine Division and served in the South Pacific for over two years. He fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal and later in Cape Glouster, New Britain. While never wounded he suffered severe weight loss from Malaria. He was a local Insurance Agent for over 39 years and was Co-Owner of the Crema-Hammell Agency in Absecon. He was a life member of the First Marine Division Association, Past Commander of the Linwood American Legion, a member of the V.F.W., Keystone Lodge #153 of the Masons and the United Central Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Rosemarie I. Bessor, daughter Joanne Bessor of Lake Hiawatha, son Nick and his wife Bonnie Bessor of Linwood, daughter Barbara Bessor Cooper and her husband Gary Cooper of South Lake Tahoe, CA, grandchildren Philip Bessor & his companion Judi Portnoy, Lauren & Jim Mulholland and one great grandson Benjamin Mulholland. Phil was an avid fisherman and hunter most of his life. In his later years he and his wife traveled extensively both home and abroad. Phil also loved the Philadelphia Eagles and was a season ticket holder for over 25 years. Mr. Bessor lived an honorable Christian life. A Life Well Lived! Funeral arrangements will be private.
