Arnold Hill Obituary

HILL, ARNOLD D., "PEEWEE" 68 - of Harvey Cedars, passed away on October 11, 2008 at home with his family at his side. Arnold was born in Wilmington, NC on August 24, 1940, a son of the late Joseph A. and Isla S. Hill. In 1948, he moved to Harvey Cedars, where he later graduated from Southern Regional High School and then attended Roanoke College, VA. In 1959, he was employed by Canette & Hill, Harvey Cedars, which was owned by his parents up until 1961, when it was sold and became Hardenberg Canetti & Hill (HCH Real Estate) On February 8, 1963, he married Virginia James of MT Holly at Fort Benning, GA. The dredging industry was his lifetime career. At the age of 27, he purchased Barnegat Bay Dredging Company from the Reynold Thomas Family of the Harvey Cedars. He was a strong supporter of small business and ified before Congress for this purpose. He also served as a President of World dredging Association, Northeastern Division (1977-1978). In 1984, he bought Neptune Wines & Liquors in Harvey Cedars and in 1996 Atlantic Equipment Construction Company in Cedar Run. He owned and operated all three businesses as President up until present. He was a member of Sextant Lodge #286, Beach Haven, F&AM, a member of the National Federation of Independent Business, and served in the National Guard. The winter months were always spent with his wife, Ginny, at their residence in Ft. Myers, FL. Here he enjoyed his favorite pastimes being an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a fun loving man who was devoted to his family, friends and employees. He had a great sense of humor and all who knew him, had great respect for him. He will be truly missed by all. "PeeWee" is survived by his wife, Ginny, two sons, Joseph and Robert, and Joseph's wife, Lisa (Laurence), and grandson, Scott. HE will be sadly missed by his brother, Michael Hill, and two sister, Patricia Hill and Peggy Kircher. Donations may be made in Arnold's memory to: Shriner's Hospital for Children 3531 No. Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19140. Arrangements were handled by Maxwell Funeral Home. Services were private.
