Gertrude Hanggeli Obituary

HANGGELI, GERTRUDE JOANNE, "TRUDY" 87 - of Germania, passed away peacefully on Monday October 13, 2008 at the Health Center of Galloway. Trudy was born in Park River, North Dakota on January 9,1921. She lived in Hatton, North Dakota for several years. There, she helped raise her four young brothers during the Depression years. Trudy enlisted as a WAVE in the US Navy in 1942 and served our Country for almost 14 years. She was an Air Traffic Controller during this time. While in the Navy, Trudy was stationed at: NAS Seattle, Washington, NAS Norfolk, Virginia, and the Philadelphia Naval Yard, where she met her future husband, William Hanggeli. After she left the Navy, Trudy's life revolved around that of her three boys and Husband. The Navy required them to travel throughout the United States and parts of Europe. Trudy's favorite pastime was camping with her family and friends with the WBCCI (Airstreamers). She was a member of this group for 30 years, in addition to being a member of the American Legion Post 430. Trudy loved to bake and cook. Her specialty was lefse, A Norwegian flatbread, but her Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies were the family's favorite. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting special afghans and sweaters for others as gifts. Above all else, Trudy always had a positive attitude in any situation and encouraging words for everyone she met. Trudy leaves behind to remember and carry on her spirit: her devoted husband of 53 years, LCDR USN RET William "Bill" Hanggeli, her sons, Eric, Scott , and Todd, a daughter-in-law, Karen, a grandson Todd Jr., and their dog Jazz. She is also survived by two brothers: CAPT. USN RET Paul (Rosie) Anderson, Atlantic Beach, Florida, Dave Anderson (Ardis), of Kent, Washington, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edith (Hanggeli) Holroyd and Paul Holroyd. In addition, Trudy was predeceased by two brothers: Kent Anderson, of Medford, Oregon, and Don Anderson, of Anchorage, Alaska. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday October 25, 2008, at Wimberg's Funeral Home, 400 Liverpool Avenue, Egg Harbor City, 609-965-0357. Bill, Eric, Todd & Scott

It was a true pleasure to have the honor of meeting Trudi when I lived in New Jersey. She had a loving way about her that could not be matched by anyone. I will always remember what a loving, graceous and giving person she was when I came down to visit Scott. I know the Lord has made a very special place for her in heaven. My prayers are with you all at this time for your loss.

You were the greatest mom in the world. I know how very blessed we all were to have you touch our lives in the way that you did every day of your life on earth. Dad will be ok, and you made our days with you the very best and you gave our family the never ending love and support as Eric, Scott, and I became who we are today. Karen and TJ love you and know how much you gave of yourself and will forever be so grateful to have felt your love. We will all miss you Mom and will love you forever. We will be ok, and will all meet again someday. God Bless You Mom. Your loving son, Todd
