Bette Charlotte Tevis

TEVIS, BETTE CHARLOTTE (MILLER-BURK) 82 - of South Dennis on October 22, 2007. Born April 1, 1925 in Pennington, New Jersey of nine children. Bette graduated Central High School in Hopewell Township, and Rider College, Trenton where she studied for her nursing degree. She conducted her practical nursing training at the University of Pennsylvania, Pediatrics Department. Bette's early professional career included tenure at Mercer Hospital and Municipal Hospital, Trenton. After raising five children, Bette continued her employment at The Vineland State School, and later, for eighteen years with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Industry, retiring in 1992. Recognized and honored in 2004 for her exemplary record of community leadership and volunteerism, Bette was bestowed the prestigious honor of Outstanding Senior Citizen of the year by the Cape May County Department of Aging. The award was presented by Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew of the New Jersey General Assembly. Bette's survivors, forever in their memory and eternally grateful, include husband, Benjamin F. Tevis, Jr. South Dennis; sons, P. Frederic Burk (Judy), Mays Landing, Jon M. Burk, Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Patricia R. Burk,. Cape May Court House, Peggy A. Gretz (Karl), South Dennis; cherished grandchildren, Austin P. and Tyler K. Gretz; sisters, Pat Crawford, Ellie Rosswagg, and Peg VanHise. Extended family includes Benjamin N. Tevis (Sandy), Hollywood, FL. Bette was predeceased by her husband of eighteen years, David F. Burk and her beloved eldest son, Philip D. Burk. A Service of Memory and Love will be offered Saturday at 12 O'clock Noon from South Seaville United Methodist Church, 115 Corsons Tavern Road, South Seaville. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
