David Barag Obituary

BARAG, DAVID H. - of Atlantic City, Boca Raton, Fl and formerly of Ventnor, died suddenly on November 8, 2007. Born November 12, 1917 to Rose and Jacob Barag, he grew up in Camden and was a graduate of Camden High School. He attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and served in the Army Air Corps as a radioman during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Belle; parents, Rose and Jacob; sister, Beatrice; brothers, Milton and Herbert; grandson, Arthur and great-granddaughter, Elana. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; children, Barton and Dolly Barag and Michael and Eileen Barag, Steven Barasch and David Barasch; sister, Rita Wolfe; grandchildren, Rachel (Dan) Zagursky, Jessica Barag, Ryan Barag, Nicole (Josh) Travis, Matt Barasch and Michelle Barasch and great granddaughters Maya Zagursky and Julia Travis. He was partners with his brother Milton, first in a food market in Camden and then in the Boardwalk Motel in Atlantic City from 1957-1973. In 1973 he and his late wife Belle founded Groveland Discounts in Somers Point and later added the Absecon store in 1985. David was a member of Cong. Beth Judah in Ventnor where he was active in the Men's club. He was an active member of Avoda, serving as Nassi in 1996. He was also a member of Belcher Lodge F&AM, Linwood Country Club, Jewish War Veterans and Knights of Pythias. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services, Sunday, November 11th, 10am, at Cong. Beth Judah in Ventnor. Interment will follow in Beth Kehillah Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to Avoda, P.O. Box 3120, Margate, NJ 08402 or Cong. Beth Judah, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor, NJ 08406. Arr. Roth-Goldsteins' Memorial Chapel, Atlantic City.
