Leslie Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS, PASTOR LESLIE, 74 - departed this life on Saturday, November 10, 2007. Born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on January 26, 1933, he was affectionately known as "Jehu", the Jezebel slayer. He obtained his education in North Carolina and moved to Atlantic County in 1978. He attended Second Baptist Church for a short time where he met Donna Sharon Carr and they were married Oct. 7, 1979. Reverend Williams worked at the Atlantic City Sewerage Company for 32 years before retiring and he also owned and operated a professional landscaping business. He liked to tinker with electrical appliances, which he was very good at. One of his specialties was fixing Kirby vacuum cleaners. Upon leaving Second Baptist Church, Reverend "Jehu" started attending St. Paul's AME Church in Pleasantville, as assistant Pastor as well as attending ministerial school at St. Paul's where he was ordained. His pastoral journey took him to Allan AME Church in Williamstown, and St. Stephens in Whitesboro. In 1995, the Lord blessed Asbury AME Church in Wildwood to have him as pastor. He has pastored until his joyous home going celebration. When the Lord needed a shepherd for Asbury, he came forth and has been steadfast to that calling ever since. Also during this time, "Jehu" has been active in ministry with The Ray of Hope Family Worship Center, located in Bargaintown. The Lord has continued to open doors by sending teachers and pastors to help feed his sheep. Pastor Williams has been a willing and obedient servant of the Most High God. He has been a father to many fatherless young Pastors, men and women, and has astounded many others with his unmovable faith: he shared his wisdom, compassion and patience to those whom the Lord has placed in His path. He left you with a thirst of wanting to find our more and more of the word of God. He was beyond a doubt, a true soldier and trusted servant of the Lord. Pastor Williams leaves to mourn: his wife, Donna Williams; one daughter, Leslie Williams-Jacobs; a sister, Gertrude Smith (John) of Grifton, NC; one brother, Freddie (Ruby) Williams of Greenville, NC; one granddaughter, Anna Jacobs of Atlantic City; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. Homegoing Services will be held at 11AM Thursday, November 15, 2007, in the Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Blvd., Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Burial will be in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.
