Elizabeth Leedom Obituary

LEEDOM, ELIZABETH M., 93 - of Brigantine, died peacefully in Our Lady's Residence, Pleasantville on November 15th, 2007. Elizabeth was born September 20th, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of Clarence G. and Elizabeth M. (Devlin) Supplee. In 1943, during WWII, she enlisted in the Navy, training at Hunter College in New York. She was next stationed in Washington State and later in Hawaii, where she provided clerical support for Army Air Forces operations, serving as Stock Control Supervisor at the Naval Air Station in Honolulu. At age 85, while reminiscing about serving her country, she explained, "I went into the service to help out my two brothers who went into the Army and Navy. I wanted to make sure they came home." Elizabeth spent her professional career in bookkeeping positions with Cities Service (currently CITGO) and after retirement, in 1973, moved from Philadelphia to Brigantine with her husband, Bill, whom she had married in 1956. For over 50 years, she was involved with the American Legion. While in Philadelphia, she was a member of the Women's Memorial Post 888, and served as Post Commander there in 1956/57. After moving to Brigantine, she continued her involvement, actively serving the Kline-McAnney Post 396 for many years. She was also committed to the VFW. She was a Life Member and former Quartermaster of Post 6964 in Brigantine. Elizabeth is survived by sisters Marie E. Burke of Pleasantville, and Catharine Jankowski of Philadelphia, Pa and one brother Clarence (Else) Supplee of Lansdale, PA. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who loved their "Aunt Betty" dearly. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, William Leedom and her brother, Joseph Supplee. Friends and relatives are invited to her visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, at the Keates-Plum Funeral Home, 3112 Brigantine Ave., Brigantine.
