Harry Westney Obituary

WESTNEY, HARRY BONIFACE, 82 - of Atlantic City, passed away quietly on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born and raised in Atlantic City and a lifetime resident Harry's parents were the owners and operators of the Old Clarion Hotel in Atlantic City. He was an accomplished church organist and music teacher of both organ and piano, and a Choir Leader for both children and adults, a career which he very much enjoyed. A graduate of Atlantic City High School, Harry attended Music School in New York. And though unpretentious, he was a legend with his musical talents and prominent in Atlantic City Music Circles. Harry was an organist at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Chelsea Presbyterian Church, First Church of Christ, Church of the Ascension, St. James RC Church of Ventnor, St. Monica's RC Church, St. James Episcopal Church and Secretary and Organist at All Saints Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Professional Church Organists and The American Guild of Organist- Atlantic City Chapter. Harry also was a Member of Big Brothers and he had been a Scout Leader. He was know for his generosity to all and best known as a Good Samaritan. While no immediate family survivors, he was loved by many, many dear and faithful friends. The Memorial Mass for Harry Westney will be Celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2007, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, California and Atlantic Avenues in Atlantic City. Friends may call Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. at the Church. In Harry's memory, donations may be made to: Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and School 2651 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, N.J. 08401 or to the charity of ones choice. Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC.
