Mr. John Gregory Frye Jr. was born Dec. 2, 1953, and he departed this life on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 in Petersburg, Va.
John received his education at Westinghouse Tech School in Brooklyn, N.Y., after graduating from high school he worked for Con Edison Electrical Co. In 1974, he joined the Navy which he was very proud of. He was stationed in Norfolk, Va., on the United States Mount Whitney. When his tour was over he became an armed security guard. Nothing could keep Greg in one place too long. He moved back to New York where he was employed by the United States Post Office and he also worked with the New York Times.
Greg had a loving heart, was an outgoing person and enjoyed having fun. He loved people and people loved him, he never met a stranger. Greg had a passion for working with electronics, painting, hunting and fishing.
He met and married Darlene Watson; out of this union they had a daughter, Jasmine Arlene Frye. He later married Comfort Frye.
He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Frye Sr.; mother, Christine Frye; and sister, Rosa Lee Dobbins of Vass, N.C.
He leaves to mourn his passing a daughter, Jasmine Frye of Brooklyn, N.Y.; wife, Comfort Frye of Manhattan, N.Y.; four sisters, Jessie Newsome of Georgia, Kayfrances Frye of Brooklyn, N.Y., Delores Frye and Theresa Maharaj, both of Petersburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Dobbins of Vass, N.C., and Bennie Newsome of Columbia, Ga.; three aunts, Nancy Pryor of Westbury, N.Y., Katherine Stubbs of Southern Pines, N.C, and Martha Leach of Apex, N.C.; six nieces; three grand-nieces; two grand-nephews; a host of relatives and friends.
He was loved and cherished by all and will be greatly missed.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; Pastor Robert Bradley officiating.
