Billy Barnes Obituary

Billy Joe Barnes, 74, of Squirrel Level Road, Petersburg, departed this life into the Kingdom of God on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Clifford and Bessie Mosley Barnes, and was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lucille "Lucy" Strum Barnes, and his beloved grandson, Sean Christopher Maitland. Mr. Barnes retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. after 32 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Faulkner (Pookie) and husband, David, of Dinwiddie; and a son, Richard Neal Barnes (Possum) of Chester; a grandson, Jason Barnes of Chester; brother, Tommy Barnes and wife, Marie, of Dinwiddie; sister-in-law, Mentha Bell Lewis and husband, Charles E., of Dinwiddie; numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy was a very fun loving, thoughtful, caring and giving person who loved everyone. He sincerely enjoyed being with family and friends for social activities. He is loved very much, and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. His many fond memories will be cherished forever by his family, friends and pet bird "Doodle."

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the funeral home.
