John King

Early Sunday morning Aug. 31, 2008 God in His infinite wisdom called home one of his angels, Mr. John King of 826 Fort Henry St., Petersburg, Va.

He was born April 5, 1946 in Sussex County to the late Mary Lou Grandison and Richard King. He was employed at Delaware Mechanic in New Kent County, Va. for 25 years. John rededicated his life to Christ and joined Sharon Baptist Church of Dinwiddie County, Va.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: a devoted companion of 13 years, Nancy Rives; one daughter, Tracey Lofton (Leonard); four sons, John, Reginald (Caprina), Rodell (Beverly) and John King Jr.; their mother, Glorine King, all of Petersburg, Va.; children, David and Ciarra Yancey of Texas; nine grandchildren; seven brothers, Vannie (Viola) and Lloyd (Barbara), both of Dinwiddie County, Va., Steve, Ronnie, Ricky and Kenneth, all of Petersburg, Va., Norman (Doris) of Chester, Va.; six sisters, Catherine (James), Hattie (James), Marlene, Tamatha, Gracie (Leonard), of all Petersburg, Va., and Glovenia (Donald) of Dinwiddie County, Va.; three aunts, one devoted, Lady Roberts of McKenney, Va., Ruth Phidd of New York and Martha Pegram of Jarratt, Va.; devoted stepchildren, Charles Rives, Catherine Smith, Martha Loperl, Virginia and Tonya Rives; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, devoted friends, Sam Massenburg, Frances Robinson, Francis Goodwyn, Mary Robinson and Carl Goodwyn.

A special thanks to his caretaker, Ms. Mary Johnson, and the staff of MCV for their outpouring of love and support.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at Sharon Baptist Church, 26804 Fort Emory Road, Petersburg (Dinwiddie), Va., with the Rev. Dr. Herbert Anderson, pastor, serving as eulogist. The interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
