George Jackson Obituary

On Friday Sept. 19, 2008 God called home to an eternal rest, George Sydnor Jackson, affectionately known as "Jack." He was born May 2, 1935 in Halifax County, Va., to the late Charlie Lee and Sally Jackson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, West Petersburg. He will also a former employee for Continental Cane, Hopewell, and was a retired employee of Lanston and Johnson Construction Company, Petersburg. He was the husband of the late Emma Seward, and was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Lee Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Shelby Jennings (William), Otis Jackson, George Theodore Jackson (Zavier), Edwin Jackson (Vickie), Thumberlina Jackson, Lorenzo Jackson (Mary), AL Jackson and Patrice Bailey (Linwood); step children, Betty Garris, Inez Stith, Patricia Seward and Bonnie Seward; three step sons, William Seward, Bernard Seward and Christopher Seward; two brothers, Booker T. Jackson of Port Washington, Md., and Robert Jackson "Skeet" of Hopewell; sisters, Sally Hamlin of Maryland, Loretta Trent of Temple Hill, Md., Ella Boyd of Port Washington, Md., Alice Taylor of Brookneal, Va.; a sister in law, Katherine Jackson; one aunt, Leslie Davis; 47 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, to include a devoted friends, Barbara Pearson and Gracie McDougal.

A homegoing service will be held Thursday Sept. 25, 2008 at noon at the First Baptist Church, West Petersburg, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Peter Jeffrey, officiating and Pastor Victor Wheeler, Victory Ark Ministries, Petersburg, delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. for the procession on the day of the service.

Due to finality stages of remodeling construction at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnsons Funeral Home, the public viewing will be held on Wednesday Sept. 24, 2008 at the Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Blessed is he that comes in the majestic name of JESUS! Bro. Jackson always had a kind spirit. I enjoyed being in his presence. I am the shepherd of two of his sons(Bernard & Theo & daughter-inlaw Xavier )I know Deacon Al & Otis. I will sorrowfully miss brother George. To the family my wife and I love you and pray daily for you. GOD bless.
