Leroy Crenshaw Obituary

On Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 our hearts were saddened by the passing of our beloved Leroy Crenshaw of 928 Hamilton St., Petersburg. Leroy departed this life at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was second to the eldest child of the late Levi Crenshaw and Exxie Bell Gholson, and was born March 1, 1941 in Dinwiddie County.

He was a retired master carpenter for Swearingen Realty where he enjoyed working for many years. All who knew him loved and admired the kindness of his heart and the quietness of his spirit. Leroy loved to talk; he would strike up a conversation with any and everyone. He was very outspoken and his affectionate smile made you remember who "Mr. Crenshaw" was whenever he entered a room. He may be gone, but will never be forgotten; he will always be remembered for his gift of giving generously.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Gladys Crenshaw, who departed his side June 30, 2007; his parents, Levi Crenshaw and Exxie Bell Gholson Crenshaw, and his brother, John Crenshaw.

He leaves to treasure his memory, his brother, James "Jimmy" Crenshaw (Mable) of Petersburg; two sisters, Robertha Mae Crenshaw of Petersburg, and Bobby Crenshaw Stith (James) of Fort Washington, Md.; one uncle, Samuel Crenshaw and a devoted aunt, Thelma Gholson; a special friend, Lula Lucas (Diane); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many other relatives, friends and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, with the pastor of Third Baptist Church, the Rev. Leroy Cherry, officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the chapel. The interment will be held at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 10 a.m. at the residence, 928 Hamilton St., Petersburg, on the day of the service.

Services are entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home now serving from three locations.

MY SECRET GARDEN

I go into my secret garden
To dream and hope and pray;
The beauty of flowers found there
Almost takes my breath away.

The roses bloom profusely
All attended by busy bees;
The fragrance is so sweet
Spanish moss clings to trees.

I sit quietly on a bench
Around me the nature sounds;
I lean back and close my eyes
While such peace abounds.

God must have designed this place
Surely it is so close to paradise;
I feel as if I were floating
Heaven must be like this, I surmise.

We all need a secret garden
Where we can go when stressed;
To commune with God and nature
And come away feeling blessed.

GODS ETERNAL LOVE

MAY YOUR LIFE BE FUN OF SUNSHINE
AND YOUR HEART BE FULL OF LOVE,
MAY EACH NEW DAY BRING MANY BLESSINGS
AND A NEW HOPE FROM ABOVE.

MAY YOU REACH OUT WITH A LOVING HAND
TO THOSE YOU WOULD NEED A FRIEND,
MAY YOUR HEART BE FILLED WITH KINDNESS
THAT WILL NEVER END.

KINDNESS IS A SPECIAL GIFT GIVEN TO US
AND WE MUST USE IT ALL AROUND.
TO HELP THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST
YOU KNOW WHERE THAT IS FOND.

HE GAVE US THE GIFT OF MERCY A FORGIVENESS
IF ENEMIES SHOULD COME OUR WAY,
TAKE THEM IN AND FEED THEIR STOMACH
AND THEIR SOULS COULD BE WON THAT DAY.

JESUS DIED FOR EACH AND EVERYONE OF US
SO OUR SINS COULD BE SET FREE,
FROM ALL THE EVIL SATAN THROWS AT YOU
HE CAN NEVER WIN YOU SEE.

GODS ETERNAL LOVE IS FOREVER MY FRIEND
JUST THINK OF THE GLORY TODAY.
THAT COULD BE IN YOUR HEART FOREVER
AND IT COULD BE ALWAYS THERE TO STAY.
