Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning.
When with our Saviour heaven is begun.
Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done.

Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden dear with happy days we've known
In spring I'll watch for roses red and shades of lilac blue
In early fall when brown leaves fall I'll catch a glimpse of you
Should you go first and I remain to finish with the scroll
No lenghtening shadows shall creep in to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness and we've had our cup of joy
But memory is one gift of God that death cannot destroy
Should you go first and I remain for battles to be fought
Each thing you've touched along the way will be a hallowed spot
I'll hear your voice I'll see your smile though blindly I may grope
But memories of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope
Should you go first and I remain there's one thing I'd have you do
Walk slowly down that long long path for soon I'll follow you
And I want to know each step you take so that I may walk the same
For someday down that lonely road you'll hear me call your name

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion,
With our dear loved ones who've gone before,
In that fair homeland we'll know no parting.
Beyond the sunset forever more.
Beyond the sunset forever more.

There is a path to my door
Leading to an open heart
And open arms even more
Just waiting for you to come in
As a welcome friend.

When you take the path to my door
Come right in and find
Comfort of a loving friend
Who will put aside a chore
And welcome you in
To share what is on your mind
As we share friendship and much more.

Within the walls of my humble abode
May you find love and peace
That surrounds those who enter in
And a welcome to feel at home
As you enjoy the time while you're here
And leave with a desire to come again
To enjoy the company of a loving friend.

I find a safe haven
Within the confines of my home
Where I relax and enjoy solitude
As I relive my dreams of the past
And move forward, not in fear and dread,
But with confidence to what is ahead
Surely twill be as wonderful as the years that came before.

When God Gives Us a Gift
When God gives us a talent
He doesn't take it back
Just concentrate on what you have
Not what you think you lack.
Use to the fullest what He gave
And He will give you more
You never know what things
The Father has in store.
His storehouse is full of gifts
And He gives them freely to us each day
Some He sends without our asking
And others in answer to the prayers.

God's Army
It was late one Tuesday evening,
Before a mother could sit down,
To tell her only child about
The terror that hit downtown.

She looked into the eyes of her son
God, she loved him so,
She felt her heart begin to break
And the hurt begin to show.

She gathered all her strength and courage,
as her story she began to tell.
"Baby don't cry, but I'm afraid daddy
Might be under a building that fell."

The boy looked back at his mother,
His eyes made not one blink.
And the mother's tears began to fall.
What would her baby think?

You see, his dad is a firefighter,
And his hero from the day of his birth.
He loved his dad more than anything else
That could ever inherit this earth.

The mother's head began to drop,
Her forehead resting on palm.
She thought her son would be upset.
Instead, he was very calm.

The boy leaned over towards his Mom,
And put his hand upon her head.
In her ear he began to whisper,
And this is what he said:

"Mommy please don't cry,
I knew daddy wasn't coming home.
I talked to him just a while ago,
But it wasn't on the phone.

He told me that he loved me,
And he promised we'd meet again.
He told of his new home,
And the job he was to begin."

"God is building an army,
And there are many angels needed.
That, is where daddy and the others went.
They weren't all defeated."

It was then, the mother lifted her head.
The tears streamed down her face.
And she could feel her husband's presence,
As it filled her heart with grace.

It was then she knew her son was right.
He was in God's great army now.
She also knew her son was safe,
That he'd be kept from harm somehow.

So, evildoers of the world beware.
An army is on the way.
Bolstered by new angels,
Who left the towers that sad day..

Their commander has never been beaten.
His power has never been matched,
And if evil thinks He was almighty before......
Well, the surface has just been scratched!

God always knew You and I
Would need a cherished friend,
That is why He sent me you,
That is why God made us friends;
We keep our shattered hearts
As one to face the days ahead.

First God called your Julie
to His Heaven up above,
He needed one more flower
in His garden full of love;
Her long and golden hair
to set a halo shining bright,
And God knew that you would need
a cherished friend for life.

When My Mama Prayed

I do not ask riches for my children,
Nor even recognition of their skills;
I only ask that Thou wilt give them,
Hearts completely yielded to Thy will.

I do not ask for wisdom for my children,
Beyond discernment to Thy grace;
I only ask that Thou will use them,
In Thine own appointed place.

I do not ask for favor for my children,
To seat them on
Thy left hand or Thy right:
But may they join the throng in Heaven,
That sing before Thy throne so bright.

I do not ask perfection in my children,
For then my own faults I would hide;
I only ask that we might walk together,
And serve our Savior side by side.

Thankful For The Thorns

I thank you, Lord, for every thorn,
Each heavy burden I have born.
The darkest moments of despair,
And every cross I've had to bear.

I'm glad I've suffered grief and pain,
Those seasons of distress and strain,
That stunned my pride and humbled me,
And turned my stubborn heart to Thee.

And thank You Lord, for every tear,
I've shed for those I hold so dear.
For 'tho I trusted you before,
Each crisis made me love you more.

For as the sorrows came and went,
They left me tired, weak, and spent.
With all my hope and courage gone,
I could not make it on my own.

'Twas then my prayers were most sincere,
With tender hands You soothed my fears,
And as my selfish will was purged,
A stronger, deeper faith emerged.
,br> If I had had a life of ease,
And could have lived the way I pleased,
I might have never known the thrill,
Of living in Thy holy will.

The mountain tops, I must confess,
Were not where I was at my best.
But in the shadow of the vale,
I came to know my Savior well.

But for the valleys I've been through.
I may not love you as I do.
And might have never realized,
That thorns are blessings in disguise.

So, THANK YOU, Lord, on bended knee,
For everything you've given me.
Of life's desires, I've had the best,
Abundant joy and happiness.

Both light and shadows filled my days.
And looking back, I have to say,
The roses bloomed.............
They died............. I mourned.

And today, I THANK YOU......
For the thorns.

Standing Room Only
not even room to kneel and pray.
Standing Room Only
on the judgment day.
Last night I had an awful dream
that the end of time had come.
The trumpets had been sounded
and life on earth was done.
An angel stood one foot on land
the other foot on sea.

And as I tried to kneel and pray
a voice said unto me
"There's standing room only
it's too late now to pray.
There's standing room only
This is the judgment day."
People filled each church and church yard
just as far as I could see.
I heard a pitiful cry for mercy
then I realized it was me.
I saw the Savior then appear as
He split the eastern sky.
I saw tears of joy on a Christian face
and I heard the sinners cry.
And as I try to touch His hand
with one last feeble plea.
I cried again have mercy
have mercy Lord on me.
I saw a tear come to His eye
as He turn my soul away.
I didn't know Him yesterday
and He knew me not today.

The earth was burning all around
the world went up in smoke.
and as the flames engulf me
Thank God I awoke
Then I got out of bed and
got down on my knees.
And you should have heard me pray
For in my dream I witnessed
God's Great Judgment Day.
Standing Room Only
On God's Great Judgment Day

One More Day

One more day of sunshine Lord
I need it so bad this time
One more day to see flowers bloom
One more day to call mine

I’ve been low in this valley Lord
I can’t seem to climb out
The devil’s been tempting me
He’s fighting me now no doubt

I need one more day of happiness
One more day not to cry
Maybe I could be at peace again
Before the day goes by

You know my thoughts from afar off Lord
You know my old heart too
Could you just send a healing touch
Down to a heart that’s true

One more day of sunshine Lord
I hope and pray it comes
But not my will but Thine lord
I’ll have peace when this world is done

In my Fathers house
are many mansions; if it
were not so I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place
for you. And if I go and
prepare a place for you
I will come again, and
receive you unto myself,
that where I am you may be also.
-John 14:2-3

The Mansions of Heaven

This world, however beautiful, was never meant to be
The place that we would call our home for all eternity.
And though we would not choose to leave, a loving God knows best,
And in His time, He lifts us to a place of peace and rest.

For He has built a mansion where His children will abide,
Free from pain and sorrow, forever at His side.
He said He'd never leave us to face our trials alone,
And though sometimes we fail Him, He never fails His own.

And even when our choices are less than He would ask,
He knows when human courage is unequal to the task.
We cannot judge what happens, though tears and questions start.
We only see what's visible--God sees into the heart.

And though there may be many things that we cannot explain,
We can be sure it breaks His heart to see His children's pain.
In loving arms, He bears us to a quiet place apart
Where He mends the wounded spirit and heals the broken heart.

And though these ones we love so much have left our present sight
And passed into a better world of majesty and light
Someday we'll be together in our Father's house above,
Where we'll thank Him for His mercy and praise Him for His love.

May He ease your hour of sorrow and surround you with His love,
And may it bring you strength to know Our Father's house above
Is a house of many mansions where His Son has set aside
Special places near Him for His loved ones to abide.

Grandma's Apron

The principle use of Grandma's apron
was to protect the dress underneath,
but along with that,
it served as a holder
for removing hot pans
from the oven;
it was wonderful for
drying children's tears,
and on occasion was even used
for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken-coop
the apron was used
for carrying eggs,fussy chicks,
and sometimes half-hatched eggs
to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came those old aprons
were ideal hiding places for shy kids;
and when the weather was cold,
grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped
many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling-wood were brought
into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden it carried
all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled
it carried out the hulls.

In the fall it was used to bring in apples
that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company
drove up the road,
it was surprising how much
furniture that old apron could
dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready,
Grandma walked out on the porch
and waved her apron,
and the men knew it was time
to come in from the fields for dinner.

It will be a long time before anyone
invents something that will replace that
old-time apron that served so many purposes.

I dreamed I was in heaven
Where an angel kept God's book.
He was writing so intently
I just had to take a look.

It was not, at first, his writing
That made me stop and think
But the fluid in the bottle
That was marked eternal ink.

This ink was most amazing,
Dark black upon his blotter
But as it touched the parchment
It became as clear as water.

The angel kept on writing,
But as quickly as a wink
The words were disappearing
With that strange eternal ink.

The angel took no notice,
But kept writing on and on.
He turned each page and filled it
Till all its space was gone.

I thought he wrote to no avail,
His efforts were so vain
For he wrote a thousand pages
That he'd never read again.

And as I watched and wondered that
This awesome sight was mine,
I actually saw a word stay black
As it dried upon the line.

The angel wrote and I thought I saw
A look of satisfaction.
At last he had some print to show,
For all his earnest action.

A line or two dried dark and stayed
As black as black can be,
But strangely the next paragraph
Became invisible to see.

The book was getting fuller,
The angel's records true,
But most of it was blank, with
Just a few words coming through.

I knew there was some reason,
But as hard as I could think,
I couldn't grasp the significance
Of that eternal ink.

The mystery burned within me,
And I finally dared to ask
The angel to explain to me
Of his amazing task.

And what I heard was frightful
As the angel turned his head.
He looked directly at me,
And this is what he said...

I know you stand and wonder
At what my writing's worth
But God has told me to record
The lives of those on earth.

The book that I am filling
Is an accurate account
Of every word and action
And to what they do amount.

And since you have been watching
I must tell you what is true;
The details of my journal
Are the strict accounts of YOU.

The Lord asked me to watch you
As each day you worked and played.
I saw you as you went to church,
I saw you as you prayed.

But I was told to document
Your life through all the week.
I wrote when you were proud and bold,
I wrote when you were meek.

I recorded all your attitudes
Whether they were good or bad.
I was sorry that I had to write
The things that make God sad.

So now I'll tell the wonder
Of this eternal ink,
For the reason for its mystery
Should make you stop and think.

This ink that God created
To help me keep my journal
Will only keep a record of
Things that are eternal.

So much of life is wasted
On things that matter not
So instead of my erasing,
Smudging ink and ugly blot.

I just keep writing faithfully and
Let the ink do all the rest
For it is able to decide
What's useless and what's best.

And God ordained that as I write
Of all you do and say
Your deeds that count for nothing
Will just disappear away.

When books are opened someday,
As sure as heaven is true;
The Lord's eternal ink will tell
What mattered most to you.

If you just lived to please yourself
The pages will be bare,
And God will issue no reward
For you when you get there.

In fact, you'll be embarrassed,
You will hang your head in shame
Because you did not give yourself
In love to Jesus' Name.

Yet maybe there will be a few
Recorded lines that stayed
That showed the times you truly cared,
Sincerely loved and prayed.

But you will always wonder
As you enter heaven's door
How much more glad you would have been
If only you'd done more.

For I record as God sees,
I don't stop to even think
Because the truth is written
With God's eternal ink.

When I heard the angel's story
I fell down and wept and cried
For as yet I still was dreaming
I hadn't really died.

And I said: O angel tell the Lord
That soon as I awake
I'll live my life for Jesus-
I'll do all for His dear sake.

I'll give in full surrender;
I'll do all He wants me to;
I'll turn my back on self and sin
And whatever isn't true.

And though the way seems long and rough
I promise to endure.
I'm determined to pursue the things
That are holy, clean and pure.

With Jesus as my helper,
I will win lost souls to Thee,
For I know that they will live
With Christ For all eternity & that's

What really matters When my life
On earth is gone That I will stand
Before the Lord & hear Him say,
Well Done.

A Special Place

Each of us has a place
Somewhere deep within ourselves;
A place where we go to get away,
To think things through,
To be alone...to be ourselves.

This unique place,
Where we confront our deepest feelings,
Becomes a storehouse of all our hopes,
All our needs... all our dreams,
And even our unspoken fears.

It encompasses the essence of who we are
And what we want to be.
But now and then,
Whether by chance or design,
Someone discovers a way into that place
We thought was ours alone.
And we allow that person to see,
To feel and to share
All the reason, all the uncertainty
And all the emotion we've stored up there.

That person adds new perspective
To our hidden realm,
Then quietly settles down in his own corner
of our special place,
Where a bit of himself will stay forever.
And we call that person a friend.

Missing You

I just can't believe it
The sun still sets and rises.
The moon and stars still shine.
The flowers still bloom,
The birds still sing.
I expected a change in everything...

I just can't believe it.
It still gets dark and light.
The ocean still has waves,
The rain still rains,
The wind still blows.
Is it because they do not know?

I just can't believe it.
I thought the world would stop,
When in my house I found
An empty chair,
A missing smile.
I thought it would stop
For just a while.
I just can't believe it....

Angel watching over
Those in life we lost
Standing there and guarding
Through wind and rain and frost

Sunshine clouds or rainbows
Her wings are always there
Gift of love she's wearing
As gentle as a prayer

Lovingly she's guarding
Wings He touched with light
Even in the darkness
Her glow of peace ignites

God in all His wisdom
Sent her down to care
Her wings are softly flowing
Her heart is always there

For all those who have left us
Their memorial is found
Within the place of granite
Their names with honor bound

Peace she gives with beauty
To all of those who rest
Greeting those with sorrow
This at God's request.

She brought me to this beauty
The Angel of sweet flight
She lifted me to heaven
Showed me stars so bright

Held within her arms now
Flying up above
Filled with love forever
Soft heartbeats of her love

Travel with her daily
As she looks across the land
Reaching for the beauty of
The love that fills her hands

Such love comes softly floating
With wings of angel's heart
The love she shares so sweetly
With joy that never parts

Within the sky a lantern
The glow that's always there
The wings of God's sweet angel
With peace a loving prayer

I'll stay with you forever
We'll travel through the sky
Your love is my salvation
My wings are yours to fly.

When life on earth is over
When all is said and done
God looks down with compassion
His Heart and theirs are one

Each garden that they planted
Now left along their way
Each flower they created
Is now life's bright bouquet

For they did what they had to
With love their work complete
Their time to come to heaven
God's Angels there to greet

Within their hands God's Blessing
Soft wings they earned in life
Family there to meet them
All free of pain and strife

So weep all that you have to
But know that all is well
For strolling in this garden
Hearts you loved now dwell

Precious heart of Innocence
Picks flowers every day
Hands them to our loved ones
To each of them she'll say

Flowers for those left behind
Upon the earth will flow
Velvet petals from on high
Will scent the winds below

They will feel the comfort
It comes within love's breeze
Your spirits have been blended
The sorrow soon will ease.

Where angels dance in sky of blue
They fill the sky with special hue
Colors that will blend so high
Radiance that fills the eye

Moving colors gently blend
Wings of love will quickly mend
Hearts that need a special lift
Angel's wings in sky adrift

See the outline in God's light
Wings of lace are sparkling bright
Dancing dancing in the air
Sending down a special prayer

Holding close enfolding me
Dancing angels set me free
Music blends of symphony
Wings will flutter rhapsody

Twirling twirling all around
Gentle breezes all earthbound
Touched with love a gentle dance
Angel's gift is love enhanced

Such a gift for all to see
Wings that flutter endlessly
Presenting us with gentle song
Helping us to dance along.

Colors of a rainbow
For miles and miles to share

Now a new beginning
In peace with blessed prayer
No sorrow or no pain now
Reward of love to share.

JOHNSON FAMILY

September 25, 2008

Reached the gates of heaven
Gentle Angel there
Gathering her children
In quiet peaceful prayer

All these souls have entered
Babies now in flight
Enter gates of heaven
Journey into light

As they enter heaven
Each one will appear
Youth and ageless beauty
Most magnificent premier

Special hearts are gathered
Families filled with pride
Waiting for their loved ones
As heaven's train arrives

Love to fill the magic
Of beauty in the sky
Everyone so filled with joy
All hearts will now reside

Castles filled with beauty
Gardens of heirlooms
So you will know the entrance
Where life will now resume

Friends and family gather
Before you glorious feast
God will come to dinner
Souls have found their peace.
