Ellsworth Shannon Obituary

Ellsworth C. "Buddy" Shannon, Jr., 71, of Hopewell, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. He was the son of the late Ellsworth C. Shannon and Mamie Mathis Hobbs, and was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles R. Hobbs. He was born in Bethesda, Md., moved to Hopewell as a small child and later played football for Hopewell High School. Mr. Shannon moved to Las Vegas, Nev. where he worked for many years in the casino industry. After his retirement, he returned to his hometown of Hopewell.

In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Neely Hope Hedrick but is survived by her children, Kayla Hope Griffin and Garrett Neal Hedrick. Mr. Shannon is also survived by his wife, June Houchins Shannon; daughters, Kim Bennett of Hopewell and Tammy Krukiel of Chesterfield; son, Glenn Shannon also of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Alyson Bennett, Kelly Krukiel, Miles Bennett, Zachary Bennett, Andrew Krukiel and David Krukiel; brothers, Gene Shannon and Forrest "Link" Shannon both of Prince George; and mother-in-law, Frances Bendall Houchins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Barry Ginn officiating. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery.
