James Leftwich Obituary

James Davis Leftwich, 88, of Pittsboro, N.C., formerly of Colonial Heights, Va., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson Davis Leftwich and Sarah Woolridge Leftwich, and his brothers, Herman, Preston and Thomas Leftwich.

James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue Marshall Leftwich; children, Steve Leftwich, and Ann Leftwich Stewart and her husband, Charles Thomas Stewart; grandchildren, Ben, Jeff, Danny and Hilary Stewart; and his younger brother, Warren Leftwich and sister-in-law, Dorothy Leftwich.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Petersburg chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Son & Cremation Service. Burial will be in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Va. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer's Association, 400 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27605.

Jim was the epitome of a Southern Gentleman with a cosmopolitan outlook.

Additionally, he had a strong sense of duty to his country. He believed strongly in the dictum of Justice Louis Brandeis that the most important office in a democracy is the office of citizen.

JIM, A VERY FINE MAN AND FRIEND. I MET JIM, WHILE WORKING WITH ADLER ROYAL. WE WERE ATM ASSOCIATES WITH ARBM. I REMEMBER JIM ALWAYS VERY CHEERFUL AND STORY TO TELL.
